Sox fire Katz and Thames

Katz is a little shocking, Santos is quite shocking. But I'm not mad about any of this.

Some of these guys were holdovers from Grifool. Bourgeois seemed useless.

Interested to see who they'll hire especially for pitching coach. I think Katz had his moments for sure. But there's definite room for improvement.

Santos is kinda weird. I thought the org really liked him. Since his contract was up, maybe it's a mutual decision. He could probably get an MLB job.

I don't necessarily know what an 'assistant' does in this case, but I bet they probably just institute whatever philosophy their boss tells them to. And maybe they're both fine at that. Would be boring if they get promoted.

Whoa. Didn't see the santos thing coming. Wonder why. Katz seems to be a good dude but I feel a breath of Fresh Air was needed there. Thames lasted what a year as did Butera?

They were both hired November 2023. I suspect McKinven and Fuller will have a large say in the replacements. Get "their guy".

Saw someone speculate Jerry wouldn’t let Getz fire anyone still under contract coming into 2025

Those were the ones that Venable was allowed to hire for himself i believe. This is nothing more than Venable being allowed to bring in more of his guys. Last year they didn't want to change everything at once.

Katz is one of the best organizational hires they've made in a very long time. I'd imagine he'll land on his feet quickly. Hopefully the Sox can upgrade but I am very skeptical.

Was he, though? He had some successes, sure. Sox have always had that type of stuff happen on the pitching side, though. His pitching staffs sure seemed to throw a lot of balls.

funny how you could probably search any White Sox forum and not find the love for Katz like there is now.

I'm not sure why there was a reason to keep him. Nothing really outstanding about him but isn't that like with most coaches.

It's about time a manager gets to have his own coaches. That's not White Sox.

I guess you have to purge as much as possible from the TLR/Grifol era.

I look at this as a good thing.

I don't think it's normal for a typical pitching coach/organization to have similar before & after results Katz had with guys like Giolito, Crochet, Cease and Rodon. Every time he had success with a legitimately talented pitcher they were traded away. Fedde's career basically fell apart (again) after the Sox traded him away, FWIW. Whether you want to credit Bannister or Katz for his success is a fair question.
