What an absolutely depressing thread. While I don't think any of these are incredibly far off from reality, it just speaks to the hole the White Sox are in under current management. Based on what everyone has posted thus far, they are at best a 70 win team, which means they lose 90+ games next year. For the sake of discussion, say the 2027 actually is played...they're maybe a .500 team that showed improvement from 2026? So they'll have gone .500 or worse in 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026 and 2027.

This is not even mentioning them going 35-25 in the COVID season, 93-69 in 2021...which was took SEVEN years to get to with below .500 baseball....all for 222 games of above average play that birthed zero playoff series wins.

Put another way, from 2013-2027, there is a real chance for them to have two winning seasons over a 15 year stretch.

I know you don’t care about them, but had the same depressed feeling when reading a thread about Sox possibly moving while I was watching a Cubs playoff game.  But congrats Jerry, five years ago it was probably 70 pct Sox shirts or hats at my kids school.  Now it’s 80 pct Cubs.

Anyone think Braden Montgomery could be in the opening day lineup?  To soon ? he has a little over 500 ab's in the minors.

Braden could possibly be the right fielder if Robert is still in CF.

I think is this is mostly just "I want to believe" energy - but I think he could. If the staff truly believes in the whole "veteran presence" thing why not have him up here with Robert, Beni, and possibly Tauchman before they are all gone.

I think 5% chance if he just destroys the Fall League. Otherwise, I think he gets half a season in the minors at least. I actually don’t think any of their top prospects are gonna make the team out of Spring. Schultz, Smith, and McDougal will probably get AAA time. Montgomery and Antonacci may start in AA. Oppor and Bonemer are unlikely to make the majors this year. Carlson and Fauske will be in A ball. Everybody else is either a utility ceiling, a project, or a reliever. So, guys who have a shot at making the team are lower ranked guys like Franklin, Pallette, and Shane Murphy, IMHO.

They can get him here like 18 games into the season for that.

Most people have already covered what I'd expect but:

  • Move Cannon to the bullpen - he's hit 96 on his fastball and I wonder if he could get into the high 90s in relief. Pair that with an increased focus on whatever the Sox think his best secondary pitch could be and you might have a decent middle reliever.
  • I'd expect Thorpe to be in the rotation mix unless he's not ready for spring training. I don't recall what his timeline was.
  • I expect Robert here all season unless he destroys in the first half and they can get something nice for him at the deadline.
  • I'd look to trade Quero in the offseason and see what offers are there. Also see what's out there for Lee and pick whatever makes the most sense between the two. Teel is 100% your every day catcher.
  • Platoon RF again between Tauchman and a FA signing or rule 5 pickup. I assume they'd have given Fletcher a longer shot if they thought he was anything, but maybe he's in the mix for a platoon if they trade or release Tauchman.
  • I mentioned it in another thread, but give Elko a shot in the offseason to fix his issues and see where he is in spring training. Maybe there's a .750+ OPS guy in there somewhere. If not, encourage him to take his talents to Asia.
  • Find someone to take Benintendi, or just DH him so he stays somewhat healthy.

Definitely gotta take advantage of where you can pick again. Probably go with a pitcher though.

Seems like it'd be easier to find quality pitching that way, as position prospects are hoarded and I doubt the ones with any promise ever hit rule 5

Because they are so detached from my daily routine, I wouldn't really miss them if they left. Sure, there would be initial shock and disappointment, but it really wouldn't change much for me at this point.

Yeah and it's easier to stash someone in your pen for a full season rather than try to carry a bat all year it seems.

DH 2025 Lenyn Sosa/Andrew Benintendi -> 2026 Lenyn Sosa/Quero or Teel (whoever is not starting)

I might’ve overlooked it, but I didn’t see Benintendi in your OF, DH or bench plans. How are you thinking they make him disappear?

I'm not a fan of them trading Quero unless they can get a top 100 type guy for him, which probably isn't happening in this prospect hugging climate. Teel was not great against lefties, but more than that I don't want Teel catching 125+ games at this stage. His bat is more important than his catching at this stage. Quero is a solid player especially against LH pitching, and the Sox probably aren't going to have a dedicated DH or bench players who are better hitters than either of them, so let Teel catch 90 games and DH 60 games, and let Quero catch 60 games and DH 50-60 games. Quero is also still very young and could easily become a ,770 OPS guy.

that would be interesting.  Our value as fans would be "glad he's gone".

These are the types of FA you get when an organization is one of the worst in baseball,  Forget Tucker, Naylor, because they would never sign here unless you pay them like Juan Soto. Then you have those guys hoping to get traded to a contender.

The real issue is to erase that Reinsdorf blemish which will be Ishbia's greatest challenge.

Losing is a habit.  Sure you can maybe have a couple of years of success and back to being bad again.  They are not alone.  Somehow we think rebuild = success.  There's some organizations that send the message fans can't have nice things. Attention wannabe team owners, winning is expensive in all sports.

Didn't Baldwin originally come up as a seond baseman? How about him at first base? He is tall and played the right side of the infield. He can't be any worse than Sosa or Vargas at first base.

Teel and Quero as catchers one and two. Bye Bye Lee.

Braden Mongomery in left field? Sosa and Beni platoon at DH. Vargas at third. Robert in center. Good arm and glove. Take what he gives with the bat.

Strong up the middle with Teel,Meidroth,Colson and Robert.

Why would you put your best OF arm in left?

Baldwin at first base?  That’s highly unlikely.  Unless you want another 65-70 win team.

I’m sorry you’re depressed, Tony. They make medications for that.

I like him better at third than first. And obviously left. Someone who might hit 30 homers should play first. Only guys that come to mind are Sosa and Elko as proper first basemen. Jeral Perez maybe in a couple years. Montgomery after his next back injury tbh. Carlsen is the actual shortstop of the future. But he’s 18 or something.

Still think if Gleyber Torres can play second, so can Sosa. It would be a major boon if your second baseman can hit 25+ homers. His defense is better than this forum seems to think.

The Sox fan ritual of playing everyone at first base.  We just need that Lamar Johnson to change that thinking.  Since Cannon doesn't pitch well put him at first.

What’s hilarious about this is you’re probably a little upset that I slapped you down pretty good yesterday after you made the claim that “There's a constant tone of negativity on this board and it's typically misguided/not rooted in anything factual.”

Yet today, when I stated how sad the discussion is around the future of the Sox based on factual information about the last decade plus of the franchise, all you can do is make a joke(??) about…someone suffering from depression?

Yikes
