They don’t have anywhere near enough pitching to compete if they kept Robert. None of this is about 2026.

Exactly.  They don't think much of the pitching they currently have both at the top and the guys in the minors if they are this serious about more pitching with the position player situation they have as well.

They can buy low on Petty in a trade with the Reds. He had a rough start but didn't we like him before?

Bannister could work with him

Yes. I’d be completely fine with Petty + their comp pic.

plus no more Robert which may be the best part of the deal

That speaks well to how much other highly educated GMs and analytics teams would value him at...someone half the teams in baseball and maybe closer to 20 would have cut bait on with the $2 million buyout.

Are these 20 other GMs in the room with us?

We've had months and months of attemptng to trade Robert and nothing good enough to accept, yet.

Maybe Carlos Rodriguez has some fresh ideas/relationships to plumb?

At any rate, this is like the endless arguments about Fairbanks and why he ultimately will get more than 1/$11...that number will be 2/$20-24 instead.

Yea this whole discussion has gotten weird. It's clear posters here want to make a trade for the sake of making a trade. Sox have the worst outfield situation in baseball even with him and he is certainly not even close to blocking anyone. Nothing good can come from him leaving the roster. If there return is great, then whatever, but the thought process above is just really dumb.

Your fortunes do not change in 2026 if he is here or not, but it does change from 2027 on if you can trade him for a controllable piece and a comp pick.

Arguable but not what I was addressing there.

I really get the feeling they now have to move him for SOMETHING after the latest signing.

If they need to save 10 million so badly they'd take a return of injured guys and a pick worth $1.5 million then MLB needs to step in because Jerry doesn't understand how to run this business.

Just depends how much of that overhanging debt situation has been cleared.

In Minnesota, the three minority groups added recently were given a 20% share in the team @ $1.75 billion valuation (arguably $150 million too high) in exchange for $500 million to clear/cancel all their debts since 2020  and get back to even.
