I don't really think I'd chalk that scenario up to bad luck.

Based on history, it wouldn’t be surprising at all.

  • They don’t have anywhere near enough pitching to compete if they kept Robert. None of this is about 2026.

    According to whom?

  • The problem is, if you commit to him being full-time DH, you’re relegating Quero to the bench. And I’d rather rotate the catchers there to get them the most at bats in a lost season.

Martin Perez apparently declined his option.

Sure buddy.  Ok.

Going to do a Pollock and take less money with the Padres.

Darvish out for all of 2026.

Could not let Luis go. They have nothing el$e going on. He fits right in as a lethargic muted loser who leads by example from underneath the back row.

this is the move a team makes that isn't afraid of Money spending. The only issue is IF this blocks signing any top FAs on their radar (I KNOW. I KNOW).

Doesn’t fit the party line.

That was Vaughn's problem?

Burger/Madrigal?

Keuchel?

Benintendi?

Lynn Kelly Graveman?

Why is it that Liam Hendriks was practically the only player universally praised upon leaving?

Sosa Leury Moncada Jimenez Anderson Robert Grandal the most thoroughly maligned.

Hmmm...

Keuchel just sold his local residence per the Real Estate news. No hope of re-signing I guess 😀

Can’t stay healthy the squeeze isn’t worth the juice anymore with Robert, especially at that price!

It's not an issue with the current state of the org so it's whatever, but damn I wish health wasn't a problem for Luis. I love watching him cover centerfield.

Don’t put it past them…if Perez doesn’t need their $10 million to make him their third biggest contract until Robert is traded.

Ofc his mom or family already bad mouthed the Sox on social media.

There’s always Clevinger, lol.

I just checked. The house is only listed so you may be right. He’s been allover the place since he was released here.

Getz basically confirmed today they won’t give out multi year deals in free agency

Meanwhile LAD (at least one writer) wants Tucker, Edwin Diaz OR Suarez AND Murakami.

That would pretty much make a long work stoppage unavoidable with the interests of 12 bigger market owners clearly pitted against the remaining 18.

(The one and only time I have agreed with WestEddy, paying Kyle Tucker $400-425 million is insane, especially when you have minor league outfield prospects galore.)

Read another way.

We're cash poor right now...and are still using the Covid year losses to operate like the Bill Veeck White Sox.

The $50-55 million lost in broadcasting revenues are just killing the Sox, (Twins and Guardians too) right now.

Along with interest payments on accrued debt.

The only question is how long to off load Robert and how much will they eat in money or prospects to dump Benintendi.

At least M.Perez is saving them $10 million...

Shane Bieber picking up his player option is wild. He’ll now earn $16M rather than go to free agency with a $4M buyout.

Must have fallen in love with city/fans and wanted another run, and not to relocate family again.

Gausman Yesavage Bieber Bassitt/Berrios Lauer...Scherzer probably gone?

Rinse and repeat this same quote in some similar form or fashion every offseason until Ishbia owns the team.

In other words JR has already told Getz a lockout starts in 13 months and don't spend a dime on any long term deals. (Not that any quality free agents would be interested anyway...)

Feel like it was done in good faith and an extension is being discussed/announced soon.

The team had to do this. Again ... tanking is one thing but not picking up Robert's option would have been yet another slap in the face to Sox fans who have spent a ton of money during the tank job for bad baseball (but delicious corned beef, roast beef sandwiches; pizza; shakes), overpriced beer and pop. Robert is one guy who could play for just about any team, along with our new SS phenom.

But how about those Bulls/Bears/Darryn Peterson at KU?

Don’t get too excited.  They could look to trade him in Spring Training.

MLB can’t really afford a lockout. They have won a ton of fans back these last few years and their tv deal is the following year. Not playing the year before that would crush them.
