caulfield12
The Dodgers have the most young outfield prospects in baseball and none of them are being traded for Quero...unfortunately.

It doesn't make much sense to me to trade any good young player right now. It's not like anybody is being blocked. I definitely get that. I'm not all in on trading Quero by any means. But you can always look at it the other way too. If Teel ends up being the guy they and many of us think he can be while Quero regresses or fails to further develop, then you may have missed a great opportunity to bring in a potential future starting OF. It's definitely a risk. Trades are hard! That's why I would completely suck ass as a GM. Well, that and 100 other reasons.
chw42
With ABS being a thing next year, the value of framing will be decreased (although definitely not eliminated). Quero's biggest weakness is his framing, it cost him about 1.5 wins of value last year. I say we wait and see how his power develops and how the new ABS rules affect his value defensively as a catcher before trading him. 6

This does seem to be a bit of a unique off-season when it comes to the catching market. It started developing at the deadline. It just feels like some teams are ready to take the gamble and develop a guy like Quero the rest of the way as their starter.

I see Quero as a guy whose middling power could never really develop, and he remains problematic in all aspects of the defensive game. Or he does develop and is fine. I think Teel's going to be the star.

It sort of feels like the opposite of some of the earlier Vargas discourse. Vargas is more valuable to the Sox than he is to other teams, whereas it's possible that Quero is valued higher by other teams than he is the Sox at the moment. Which is another way of saying you don't have to trade him unless you really really love the return.

On this roster, there is no good reason why one of them couldn't be picking up a 1B glove to maximize their values both as a trade piece, and to the team. But where will precious Vargas play? That’s the reason why.

He would be an ideal backup to catcher in a deeper organization.
Chicago White Sox
I know Justin Crawford is a divisive prospect, but wonder if he could be bad for Quero. Phillies will need a catcher if they can’t / don’t bring back Realmuto.
Harry Chappas
A team looking to contend that needs a catcher will over pay a bit based on the cost control.
Squirmin' for Yermin
Crawford (Phillies) or Sirota (Dodgers) would be really nice and right around I think what you would ask for. almagest
I'm fine with Quero's bat at catcher. I'm definitely not fine with it at first base, unless he develops much more power and shows some defensive acumen over there. I also don't think it's particularly valuable to show that a catcher can also play first base. You can DH him, but again his bat doesn't carry that role and I don't know if it ever will. He's likely your second catcher and plays ~80 or so games there while Teel is the catcher for the other 80 (and is the DH when Quero catches). Teel might be able to play first and hit enough to have some value there, but it's much better to put him at DH and keep him from even the remote possibility of getting injured in the field. If you can get a solid outfield prospect for Quero (back half of the top 100 is likely, as others mentioned) then I'd seriously consider it. Otherwise keep him and see what happens this year. Maybe he takes a leap and you keep him, or you can trade him for something better. Or, if he sucks, you make the choice between him and Lee as the backup.

For a 120 game per year catcher. Jury is still out on Quero being a real difference maker on the offensive side. That's a huge risk for a contender to 1) completely trust a second year guy and 2) give up comparable (yet flawed) talent instead of simply acquire a FA veteran with just $$$. Who is he replacing? Will Smith? Rushing? Just injury insurance/depth? Dodgers have already dumped a number of young catchers with higher profiles than Quero in the last 2-3 years. There has to be someone AFTER Realmuto. Otherwise just take a veteran contract like Jeffers or Higashioka in trade for mostly payroll relief. Campusano (SD) could be had for a lot less than Quero because he's currently third on the depth chart and hasn't met expectations matching his earlier prospect status.
