White Sox win draft lottery, will pick #1 in 2026

An Ian Happ type of character, or 3B potential

I would pick third base then second, but White Sox don’t have any real obviously position openings other than CF potentially.

Meidroth and Sam have essentially the same OPS, só LF and second would be the two places to consider.

Or 1B/DH, depending on how Murakami situation is resolved.

Wouldn’t count on Jacob Gonzalez long term.

Tim Elko was one of those punted picks. It's just the wrong way to look at the draft. I always put the players in order by signing bonus. Many players taken in rounds 11-20 are more highly regarded th

is this Getz trying to build his trade value? hmm not sure why they're trying to rush more infielders through the minors, there's nowhere for them to play

edit: I mean on the big league roster

No I doubt it. There are reasons for a promotion. Maybe he's not motivated to get better as much as the Sox want. You put him in AA and see if he's sufficiently motivated by a certain amount of failure.

Of course you don't want him to fail necessarily but there are varying degrees of failure. It's like with Braden Montgomery and hitting the pitches on the outside edge. Too many K's and not enough contact on those pitches. He worked on it started hitting great and that's when they like to call guys up.

Saw crazy stat today that since being traded, he leads the majors in average

Batting average or just being average ?

He's only played in 32 of the Brewers 69 games this year and still can't field or run. He has compiled a 1.0 fWAR. For him that's amazing considering he's been unable to play over half the games.

Any chance Derek Curiel could fall to the Sox in the 2nd round if they save money with a Lackey pick considering he suggested staying out of the draft to go back to LSU ?

No shot.

I didn't think so considering if he went as high as 15th that's still damn good money and would be hard to get more no matter how much the Sox saved . I just like his swing and he is a CF. Not sure he'll stay there as a pro.

Billy Carlson favors Lackey.

Or Teel/Quero favor Roch lol?

Lackey isn’t expected to make the draft combine, whereas the other top options will be there.

Take that however you want haha.

Roch came into the season as the consensus top pick, and he performed to expectations. He had a bad playoff (10-12 at bats), and now there’s doubt?

I hope the Sox don’t overthink this and pick out of positional need. Just pick the best guy and if there are too many at that position in the system, it’s great trade bait. Some of our young guys who are performing well now might have a sophomore slump à la Gordon Beckham (or Quero).

I really want Carlson to make it, because the idea of a guy with a glove so good that it would practically shift the entire team around is incredibly funny to me.

With the power hitting infielders in this organization, Carlson is already in the perfect scenario for him to fit. I say keep all the controllable cheap young talent that you can rather than trading it, because the Sox aren’t exactly big spenders. That’s the workaround for cheap teams. Constantly keeping talent in the MiLB pipeline. Keep it up. Other than trading Carleson a young outfielder prospect equivalent, I’m keeping guys like Carlson, and not trading for more expensive veterans.

Striker Pence, Hunter's Nephew, Could Be America's Answer...

He’s a 17-year-old Minecraft-loving Knucklehead (his term), but Striker Pence can effortlessly throws 100 mph and dreams more of hitting walk-off bombs.

Striker Pence, ranked by Baseball America as the No. 1 prospect in the 2028 high school class, announced on Thursday that he is reclassifying to be eligible for the 2027 MLB Draft. Pence is the nephew of 14-year big leaguer and 4-time MLB All-Star Hunter Pence.

Jun 5, 2026

Roch Cholowsky had been losing his grip on the No. 1 overall pick for a while, but UCLA's shocking exit from their own Regional -a Regional in which Cholowsky struggled at the plate -seems to have the rumor mill working overtime. This week, The Athletic's Keith Law mocked Georgia Tech catcher Vahn Lackey first off the board to the White Sox, while MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo cited one evaluator who handicapped the race for No. 1 at 40 percent Cholowsky, 40 percent prep shortstop Grady Emerson and 20 percent Lackey.

It seems like at this point no one truly knows what Chicago will do, a pretty stunning shift from just a couple of months ago. Cholowsky remains the safest bet, a shortstop with no clear weaknesses in his game who's just about MLB-ready right now. But there are real questions about his ultimate upside, questions that open the door for a two-way catcher like Lackey or a more electric athlete like Emerson - both of whom would likely sign for a smaller bonus that would allow the White Sox to spread their money around a bit more.

How does Emerson compare to Witt as highschoolers?

If you or anyone else has an athletic subscription and are willing to paste me that portion of his article / the entire article in a DM - it would help a broke brother out. 😆

I'm fine with Lackey or Roch at this point. Both seem likely to be 4-5 WAR players up the middle and that's all you can ask.

Emerson is not a Witt caliber prospect.

Lackey

The ONLY thing that sours me on Lackey are the reports of him not wanting to move off catcher with him being quoted as saying he “likes to have the ball in hand on every pitch” or whatever.
