I’d be happy with Bader 2/$20M and Giolito 2/$30M to round out the offseason. Addresses two big holes and doesn’t block anyone in the near term. Both could also be future trade pieces if they perform well.

I’d still like a leverage reliever as well, though the market is very picked over.

Seranthony Dominguez. Spend whatever of that $20M you have to spend to get him. Very difficult sell to get him here but he can be with a contender mid-season

I don't understand why Jerry wants to be the managing partner if he can't afford to play the game.  Estate taxes are not driven by the title you have.  Taxes are driven by the value of the holding at his time of death.

Ego/pride.  As long as he's healthy, he doesn't want to give up being the guy in charge.   It's probably why Ishbia doesn't get controlling option to buy the team until Jerry's 98 years old.

Sox Machine reviews the deal and Roberts time in Chicago:

"Does trading Robert officially end the cycle of tearing down thinly-built would-be contending rosters, or simply reset it? Ideally, the new players and staff on hand get to determine that answer, even if Getz's first line of touting Acuña's merits began in a familiar way. "We're talking about a player that's five-plus years of control."

I 100% think he rebounds with the bat, at least to slightly above league average levels.  Can’t comment on his health.  Feels like his big problem is his body is too muscular and tight and without an offseason to train differently, I’m not sure what a new club could do there.

When he signed with Boras they gave him options of trainers he could work with to  improve in all kinds of things. That a part of being a Boras client. Boras wants to make sure his clients understand they are a product that he will present as shiny as possible. That's how the top agencies work. Of course Robert has to buy into it and might have had to sever old ties with previous trainers .

This is pretty much where I'm settling. If they kept him on the team, I'd hope for him to play 140 games and move back towards his ceiling. I was pretty much resigned to him being an 85 OPS+ dude who would play 100 games a year. I'm not interested in playing Back to the Future to determine the exact second Getz messed up by not making the perfect move.

I'd be completely fine with Melendez. Big power potential, and nice beard

Guys got 1600 at bats in his career an a -1.1 career WAR.

Between him and Kelenic, they've got 3000ish career AB's and a .2 WAR. You extrapolate that out over another 30,000 AB's and boom, you've just stole 2 WAR!

The White Sox Moto: Where guys with 1500 career at-bats go to "get their opportunity" to show what they can do!

I'm just wondering who you think populates AAA rosters.

The scary thing is if you assume Benetendi is a DH, Melendez and Kelenic could be arguably your 2nd and 3rd best major league outfielders as negative players.

While I agree that they should be AAA fodder, if he comes in they'll be releasing articles about swing changes, have a "welcome back to Chicago, MJ" giveaway night, and seeking out banners of former players who are dead for him and Kelenic to walk in front of.

He has become a joke of an owner on planet Earth and seems clueless about that.

Gotta get better quicker he once said promoting Getz,

Jim has officially given his verbosity to Fegan, for the worse.

It would be wild to assume that minor league deal means will only play at AAA.  The Sox have churned their rosters like Amish making butter the last few years.  These dudes are almost certainly going to see Chicago for some period of time, more than a few of them will see significant playing time.

It kinda seems like they are giving him the opportunity to start though.

I'm hoping his starting career here if there is one is short lived. He belongs in the pen.

Sure along with Pereira, Acuna, Hill, Baldwin, Kelenic, etc. Throw a bunch of these guys at the wall and see what sticks. Hope to find two mlb players out of em, even if they’re simply non-negative WAR players it would be a small win.
