Hard for me to think too much about it given that it seemed the attitude around here and most everywhere else was that it was insane to pick up his option in the first place.

Or, the White could be in contention for a wild card spot and be buyers and not sellers in July.

As far fetched as you might think that is, (I think it sort of is too), I still think it’s much more likely than the Sox trading Dominguez this coming July.

The Sox signed Dominguez for the very purpose of trading him if he pitches well. The last few years have shown that good closers have a lot of value at the trade deadline.

Much likelier to subtract veteran salaries than supplement when they won't be competitive until next year and most likely the target internally is 2028.

Guardians better entertainment product, better stadium and more compelling underdog story and still can't gain fraction due to a continuous series of rebuilds that disenchanted fans.

Yes, the reliever saved the 2 games at KC. They still didn't get anything in return for Robert Jr. This is a endless cycle of a losing franchise. I remember a few years ago at the trading deadline they traded David Robertson for nothing. It was a salary dump just like what they did when they traded Robert Jr. Winning franchises don't trade their best players for nothing. You add to the team, not make it worse. Acuna, the main person who got in return for Robert Jr is nothing but a utility player. If the White Sox released him I doubt if any MLB would claim him and put him on their roster. New White Sox ownership can't come soon enough for me. This endless cycle of losing with no hope is lousy.

FWIW, Robertson was traded as part of a package with fellow expiring deal Todd Frazier and pre-arb Tommy Kahnle in a deal that brought back Blake Rutherford (who was then considered a top 50 prospect in MLB) and a couple minor leaguers who were less-regarded and ultimately accomplished little. Rutherford's stock fell not long after reaching the Sox and ended up getting a cup of coffee in the bigs many years later.

Rutherford's stock was already falling, and we tried to catch the falling knife.

To say nothing about their defense where Robert is still a star including an awesome catch last night. And the closer we apparently used the savings on is doing just fantastic for us.

Such a stupid trade.

So like if/when Dominguez continues to suck can we say this trade is even dumber now? Or does this work only one way because you're trying to defend it in a weird way?

Two blown saves in three weeks is hardly good.

That would be around 15-16 for the full season.

From what I can tell, Mets fans (obviously) love having a free spending owner who says all the right things about competing but Stearns has been getting some heat from those who expected more/better names this offseason.

The team should still be better than they are, even with Soto's injury. Mets fans seem increasingly out on the manager, but Stearns isn't (yet). Clock's gotta be ticking though.
