My guy, remember when WE was like "maybe he did start switch hitting."

Then two days later he said "why do people think I make excuses for getz."

Good times!

There has to be some sort of threshold where Getz starts receiving some blame, even from his staunchest of supporters. I realize it’s a rebuild and that there have been some injuries (Hays, Baldwin, Pereira just returned), but at what point does Getz get some heat even from his supporters when he has put together an offense that is ranked last in the MLB after three offseasons of making moves?

  • If you won’t allow yourself to get excited about Schultz because of those reasons, I truly don’t understand the point of following the Sox at all right now.

It is absolutely absurd that you can see what has happened in Phoenix with his families investment in the Suns, including a WILD spending spree, and already be attempting to speak in absolute certaint

Cant get rid of a versatile switch hitter like that just because of a bad first couple weeks.

Dustin Harris we hardly knew ye

Didn't Harris hit a homer and make a big catch the other day?
At least he's done something.

I think he was a pretty interesting minor league signing. Mix of some pop and speed. Think he swiped a couple of bags too

It goes both ways. If people want to post irrational s%*#, that’s their prerogative. But don’t go pearl clutching when other people do the same thing just because they s%*#-post from a different perspective.

Batting 5th tonight.

So they totally just waited another day to sell tickets right?

Our offensive savior has arrived

Of course Meidroth sits for some reason. Not like we didn't just have a day off

I agree 100%, this team as of right now is regressing under Getz.

3 years and still an outfield and a bullpen that are AAA and a very good possibility that the Sox will lose 100 games for the 4th straight year, this is on Getz.

Someone explain the decision to get rid of Harris before Peters. That one doesn’t make sense to me.

Tristan Peters seems like a likable, decent dude that everyone resonates with. Jerry seems to keep players and people around that he likes regardless of talent or lack thereof. If you look back over the decades with that in mind a lot of head scratching moves make more sense.

To be fair, Hayes is always hurt. If you didn't plan for that, you didn't plan.

Probably right up there with the Tim Elko ticket surge.

Some concerning signs but I'm waiting more than 17 games. I want to see what getting their "ideal" lineup out for a few months looks like. Probably not many more offensive reinforcements coming besides Hays (unless Braden Montgomery continues his hot streak), but I imagine Hagen Smith will be up at some point, and the bullpen will continue to shuffle until they find something that works. I still think 70-something wins is a likely outcome, but if they continue to be far off that pace even after getting healthy/getting promotions to MLB done then we'll know something isn't working.

How does Acuna stay on the team.

I'm just wondering how much longer they continue to play Acuna. If his lack of success continues Getz is going to have to send him down to the minors. This Robert Jr trade for Acuna looks worse than the Cease trade to the Padres.

All teams have injuries.

Don’t hate me, but I think a little more patience is due. I know it’s been a while now, but this hasn’t been a typical rebuild in the sense it’s a complete organizational overhaul. He’s doing what most of us were clamoring for, and that unfortunately takes a lot of time.

Reinsdorf can go f*** himself though.

Most obvious explanation for Antonacci being called up today instead of yesterday was the desire to not give him his first MLB at bats against a left-handed starter.

The majority view on this message board and the near-unanimous view of national baseball media was that the Sox should not have picked up Robert's option because that constituted overpaying him. If that assessment is remotely correct, then the return for him in trade is immaterial because the Sox had an asset without value and got rid of it. And even among those (like me) who thought he was worth keeping around at $20M due to his upside and the possibility of getting something in a trade, not much could be expected given an approximately market rate of pay for Robert. Getting what appears to be a Leury Garcia type of player in return is not some travesty.

Cease trade is a completely different animal because he had multiple years of team control remaining and had a better track record of performance at the time. Although the book has not yet closed on that trade, it is looking quite brutal relative to what Cease appears to have been worth at the time. Maybe Thorpe and/or Samuel Zavala will change the verdict in the long run, but it has undoubtedly been a disaster up to this point.

"The team is regressing"

I just pulled up a random lineup from not too long ago and its

  1. Robbie Grossman

  2. Andrew Vaughn

  3. Gavin Sheets

  4. Eloy Jimenez

  5. Benintendi

  6. Korey Lee

  7. Bryan Ramos

  8. Nicky Lopez

  9. Braden Shewmake

Out of these guys, who would make the current lineup?

Already I'm reading elsewhere that its hard to get excited about Schultz. Some people think if he's successful he'll be moved off the team after his 3rd or 4th year for prospects. There's no way JR will sign him long term. If the new owner comes in he might sign him.

We have him in Arb until 2033 no?
