Or we can simply blame him and JR for extending the contract into 2025/26 when cutting bait entirely seemed the most prudent course after the last two seasons.

There was no surplus value remaining after those two injury plagued and underperforming years...which is how exactly Getz ended up with a -0.6 fWAR value "suspect" player.

Would have been better to take on Vientos, and simply turn around to trade him, too.

About the Grichuk signing, it's fine. Not exciting, but if it keeps a few others from getting playing time and allows Hays to heal up, it's fine.

Grichuk is basically just a lesser version of Hays

"Despite the favorable matchup deployments, Grichuk didn’t hit over his scattered playing time. He batted .194 without a home run while striking out 10 times. He worked one walk and had a .212 on-base mark. Grichuk didn’t perform especially well against left-handed pitching last season either, batting .227/.273/.430. He was among the best hitters in MLB against southpaws from 2022-24, however, destroying them at a .317/.367/.573 clip. He connected on 25 homers, 34 doubles and four triples in just under 500 trips against lefties over those three years.
