Are these real arguments? If not, nice troll job. You have a gift.

It's literally exactly what he said. His arm was sore after the 3rd to last start. Meaning it was bothering him then. You chose to keep it as a part of the "future of thorpe" narrative because it supported the case.

So did his arm just start hurting at the start of the 2nd start? Only went 2/3 an inning. Was it 100% healthy for the start 3 before the IL?

Selection bias is always ripe at soxtalk!

If we exclude the starts that Soxtalk decided shouldn't count, he had a 4.97 FIP, 5.23 K/9 and 4.13 BB/9. Abysmal.

Guy had nine starts and you have drawn a fuckton of conclusions. Amazing how much context you constantly miss. Probably why you thought the Sox were one of the worst teams in baseball this offseason and pretty everyone stunk including Vargas & Burke.

We’re talking about a rookie who was making his first nine starts. The last two he was clearly injured and many of us were worried at the time. He had one really bad clunker amongst his first two starts. In between, he made 5 starts, averaged 6+ innings with a 1.48 ERA, 3.13 xERA, & 4.22 FIP. While the K rate was nothing write home about, he did generate fairly weak contact. I watched every single start he made and for a rookie SP I liked what I saw. Doesn’t mean he’s going to be a TOR starter or anything like that, but people writing him off over a nine game sample where he was adjusting to the league and injured for a couple starts is the definition of insanity.

Grade 2 high ankle for Teal. Cya in the playoff or next spring buddy. Best case is two months. Median is 10 weeks.

He's gone for the year. Time to really dive into the catcher list.

Yes because its not possible for injuries to get worse with use. You either have pain or no pain. Or in another universe, he was able to pitch trough the pain in his 3rd to last start and wasn't able to in the subsequent two. You like to highlight his final two starts where he was injured and omit the 5 previous which were all very good starts.

nevermind. already said.

They weren't very good. I lgave his stats excluding the bad ones. They were terrible.

Yeah, I'm the only one who thought the Sox would be bad. You got me!

I actually turned around on Vargas faster than most as well.

Phew! I mean, it sucks that he might be out another 4 weeks or whatever, but better than the alternative people were fearing.

6 to 12 weeks according to Will… apparently.

That sucks. Still better than a blown Achilles tendon, which some people were fearing.

Kyle Teel spoke before tonight's game and provided an update on his ankle injury:

107mph double for Pereira, 102mph HR for Hays

He gave up 5 runs over 30 innings in those starts. Terrible because FIP says he should've given up 5 runs a start. The game results don't actually matter.

Pereira done after 6 innings in CF. Went 1-2 with an RBI double and BB.

Hays done after 7 innings in LF. He went 2-4 with a HR and 2K.

Yes, because FIP has a higher correlation to future ERA than actual ERA. That's why having a terrible fip is bad.

High ankle sprains are very difficult to heal. Sometimes you need to have surgery to tie the tendons back together to promote healing. That's what happened to Tua when he was at Alabama.

The Sox simply can't count on him for the rest of this season.

The Sox are stuck with Seranthony who is basically useless right now and taking up a valuable spot on the 26 man roster. Thankfully it looks like Hicks has figured it out.

I see the need for a long reliever if Noah is going to stay up in Chicago. What about Peyton Pallette coming up and replacing Richards and giving the Sox long innings to save the bullpen from time to time.

5 scoreless from my guy Mason Adams with 1 H, 2 BB, 5 K

Maybe the Sox can look into acquiring Luis Torrens from the Mets among non sexy moves if they want to try to pair him with Clay Holmes.

Also decisions to be made on who to trade that other teams might actually want from the periphery of the Sox 40 man like Hays ,Pereira, Thorpe. Technically their rehab assignments will take them past the TDL if they want to use full rehab time. But they may want to make a decision sooner on Hays since he has already played multiple games on his rehab stint.

Hays 20 day rehab stint ends August 6, Pereira's, August 8th. Thorpe gets 30 days max and his ends August 17.

Several others on the 40 can also be moved including David Sandlin, Duncan Davitt, Joe Rock, Wikelman Gonzalez, Jonathan Cannon, Tyler Davis, Riiku Nishida.

The rest of the injured pitchers on the 40 Berroa, Bush, Leasure, Tyler Gilbert are still a mystery but also do not count against the 40.

The most likely pitchers added to the 26 as RP at some point if not traded are McDougal and maybe Duncan Davitt who has been pitching well since he went to long relieve if the Sox want to make better use of Newcombe in shorter outings.
