Other teams still seem to want the INT money though. $660K couldn’t buy a decent prospect? What are the Phillies and Guardians going to spend the money on? What am I missing?

It’s a fair point. Unless they had verbal agreements in place but needed to trade for some allotment?

As it gets repeated every time this comes up, International classes are usually lined up 4 years ahead of time. There were a few Yankee commits they released who might have been bouncing around, and once they said they were signing with Phil or Cleve, they traded money slots. That's more appropriate than kidnapping and baseball trafficking.

It gets mentioned, too, that as a kid matures from 12-16, some don't develop as planned, and the team renegs. Or the kid grown into a monster, and they want more money.

Read this was the case with Philly. They traded for $500k of space from the Dodgers earlier this season to fulfill an agreement with Chan-min Park, but apparently still have a Taiwanese IFA they need extra space for.

Too bad there wasn’t a way to trade something interesting with a good portion of whatever is left to get a comp pick. Seems unlikely and I’m not even sure how much we have left.

Clearly those last two are the only other options…there wasn’t a single Mets’ potential signee defecting like the Yankees’ situation?

Well if they don't think there's anybody worth it left in this class might as well trade it. Sox don't have the best track record here so hard to trust them but hey, the org is as deep as it's been in a decade probably since so yea, whatever, keep building.

There's nothing left, but other teams are trading prospects for the chance to spend... Makes sense to me.
