I don't want to be anything like the Brewers or Rays, outside of the consistently competing part.

Those teams are miserable to root for. You say goodbye to your favorite players every couple of years, and have a revolving door of talent that gets to go elsewhere when the time comes.

I lived in Wisconsin for years. Their fans are far from miserable. They’re in pennant races virtually every year. Make the post-season virtually every year. They have a realistic shot at the World Series occasionally and they enjoy new stars quite often. Yeah, they lament losing their name guys but get over it pretty quickly once they start winning games again…virtually every year.

If they don't make him an offer close to what his agent thinks the free market price will be and a months worth of negotiations proves fruitless ,Mune will test Free Agency. If you offer 6 years $150 M and his agent thinks he should get 7yr. $200M then it might not make a difference.

Seriosly this isnt the days before free agency. I don't know what he's talking about. Players come and go and superstars aren't trapped on bad teams or stuck with negotiating with 1 owner.

Mune took a short term contract to bet on himself and show what he can do to the league. It looks like he won that bet. He might like being here but is not going to take any discount to be here imo. The Sox will be outbid I am sure and he will be gone. I hope I am wrong but I am just gonna enjoy him while he's here.

The Sox were outbid on Konerko in his prime (right after the World Series), and they matched the offer to bring him back home.

The Padres at one point had eight $100+ million contracts on the books and yet saw their franchise valuation more than double while the White Sox and JR just remained frozen in time.

The next few years could include Colson's balky back, Mune going F/A, pitching prospects failure due to injury. I think Getz will trade prospects because he has to produce to try and keep his job when Ishbia takes over.

Then there's the draft. If they get a CF they really wanted, Fauske becomes available. Get a couple solid college pitching prospects, Gabe Davis could be had.

If Mune isn't extended before next years trade deadline, you may have to consider trading him depending on how the season is going. If he leaves, with a balky back, the safest place to put Colson might be first base by 2028 or 2029. At that point, Carlson or the 1-1 pick may be a consideration.

If the Sox lose Mune to F/A and Colson to a Joe Crede back issue they would have numerous options. Gonzalez/ Bonemer/Roch at SS, Vargas /Bonemer at 3rd, and Vargas/Gonzales at 1st.

Freddie Freeman and Mune will both be F/A in 2028. The Dodgers could be a player for Mune.

He spent his entire time in the WBC sitting next to him in the dugout...also joking around with veteran OF Kondoh, Ohtani even helped him with swing mechanics advice.

If anyone was out of that veteran loop, it was probably Okamoto ... and the younger emerging star Sato who'd replaced Kondoh as a starter as the WBC wore on.
