Trade Ideas/Rumors/Proposals Thread

I've come around more to the idea of being more aggressive than not.

  • We know the AL is absolutely wide open this year

  • We've seen too many teams over the years believe their "window" is just starting to open, and it never does.

  • On a similar note, with the 2027 season being so up in the air right now, there should be more emphasis put on this year

  • The Sox are actually built fairly well for a playoff series. Slug from both sides of the plate, a few good bullpen arms, and a few decent guys at the top of the rotation. Another reliable starter would go a long way. But they actually need to make the post-season first

I'd still prefer Getz to try and thread the needle by acquiring players with some control outside of just this season, but again with 2027 being up in the air, maybe that isn't that important big picture. I think trading a guy like Bonemer would be a mistake, but outside of Bonemer, I don't think anyone should be off the table. Doesn't mean I want them to give up 3 guys in their Top 10 for a 2 month rental, but if Billy Carlson and Tanner McDougal can be moved for someone to help this team in September/October, and Getz believes in the process, then I'm making the move.

We have no excuse not to buy a top-end SP in free agency this offseason. As such, I’d rather keep Bonemer and go with a cheaper SP at the deadline. I truly believe we should not be doing “all-in” trad

It would be kinda funny if we all find out this season that Getz is closer to KW than Hahn when it comes to treating the minors like moveable assets to upgrade the major league team

Said for a few months...that's going to be the really interesting thing to watch. We simply don't know who Getz is in this setting. No one does, Getz himself probably doesn't know yet.

I am all for using the minors as moveable assets to upgrade the Sox, that is the goal. I just don't think at this time they are there yet to maximize the moveable value.

And that’s the thing with KW, the only thing that mattered to him was upgrading the major league team. Maximizing the moveable value began when he thought he needed something and then all the sudden you would hear about a minor leaguer who is having nice year.

Maybe it would be another weird Padres/Preller trade. He loved Noah Schultz out of HS. I also don't see them totally selling. He'd try to get win now type guys in the deal. What if it were like Schultz, Shane Smith plus other stuff potentially? I'm also totally speculating and not a big fan of trading for relievers.

Well, that I would do but dont think Padres would.

Wow

It's true and they were going to eat almost all of the remaining contract

I am not a Chapman fan and think this may be a blessing in disguise. With that being said this is an indication that we’re going to make some moves, which I’m all for.

I’m really interested to know what the package going back to Boston would’ve been in this deal.

I don't have names but from what I gathered because they were going to take on the money it wasn't going to be anything substantial. Boston's opinion on the season shifted after the 2nd Mets game after they swept us.

He’s not really making a ton though where it would be considered a salary dump. Taking on the full remainder salary around now/trade deadline would be like 33% of $13M.

Plus the buyout.

and every penny counts with the uncertainty next year. No it wouldn't be salary dump prospects.

There was some turmoil in that franchise recently. Lots of people updating resumes.

What is the buyout? I’m only seeing $300k where I have looked. Not really much.

Interesting. Hopefully the Sox take advantage of having a low payroll to take on salaries to reduce the prospect packages going the other way in these trades.

I’m seeing that it’s a mutual option if he doesn’t pitch 40 innings. If he pitches over 40, the deal for 27 is guaranteed. Am I reading the correct details? Still doesn’t seem like a lot of money to be considered a dump or a difference in package.

I thought there was some vesting that either guarantees next year's salary, or a bigger buyout after X amount of appearances.

1 million +

Who said it was a salary dump? Taking on money with next years uncertainty though has it's advantages this year. More than the past few years.

Correct

BTW I only have Red Sox insight not White Sox so sorry that's all I got

Looks like they are going to be eating free yet again. Boston already up 4-0.
