We have no excuse not to buy a top-end SP in free agency this offseason. As such, I’d rather keep Bonemer and go with a cheaper SP at the deadline. I truly believe we should not be doing “all-in” trad

Trevor Bauer is an awful clubhouse fit even if you believe him innocent of any criminal wrongdoing. I also don’t understand why anyone would think a 35 year old pitching in the Nippon League or where

Yeah but he was completely speculating. He didn't have info.

I still think Singer makes the most sense packaged with Stephenson. But Ray and Holmes will probably be somewhat reasonable in cost if the acquiring team takes on their bloated salaries.

Everyone is speculating at this point.

They need 2

sure, but the cost isn't worth it, including the opportunity cost. Getting a 1 WAR starter is just doing something to do something. Improving the rotation requires more than that.

On some level they need to do something just to do something.

they’re in the middle of a playoff chase and they’re running out a rotation that’s 3/5ths glorified relievers.

They should be aiming higher than Robbie Ray, and then probably trade for Robbie Ray too.

He’s also 2.1 WAR better than Schultz so it’s not like he’s not an upgrade

You’ll get one and Urquidy and pray that he pitches like it’s 2022. Regardless of what delusional @Chicago White Sox thinks, Jerry ain’t eating millions of dollars in salary on two rental dumps. They will also bank on Shane Smith returning.

Detmers makes like $3M full season, so yes we can afford him and one bloated salary rental like Ray. It’s simple math based on the huge revenue increase vs. expectations and is being reported everywhere. Not sure why you keep puking out this Urguidy nonsense unless you’re purposely cosplaying as Jack Parkman.

Highly HIGHLY doubt they are thinking of this anymore after how horrible Shane has looked in his rehab starts.

Have you watched him pitch at all over the last three weeks?

It has been UGLY.

Robbie Ray hugwatch begins in 7 minutes.

The horror.

He’s just doomsday posting…the Panicans love being negative about everything to help suppress expectations.

Detmers is completely different. He won’t be a Sox because of his low salary, control, and prospect demand that Getz won’t want to pay, which is understandable.

They didn’t just acquire Urquidy just to pitch innings at Charlotte. He will pitch starter inning for the Sox at some point this season.

I’m not doomsday posting. I just don’t think Getz wants to give up the prospect talent that it would take for Detmers and I don’t think Jerry will approve adding the salary for two rentals like Ray and Holmes. If I’m right, can I come back and s%*# talk you for being a homer?

The funny thing is that you could look up your own posts at every trade deadline over the previous years and how you expected great things but ultimately ended up being disappointed in what the Sox came away with at the start of August.

Jerry still owns the team afterall.

Confused why they are even allowing him to start

To milk the best possible return and every last dollar of his contract. The deadline isn’t until Monday.

They acquired him as depth given Hagen & McDougal are moving to relief roles and Schultz may run out of steam in the near future. He’s a plan C and a smart one in the event many things go wrong. The cost was effectively nothing.

Sure, if my optimism proves unwarranted then flame away. But I don’t expect us to trade for two expensive SPs. I fully expect us to add one though and hopefully a controllable guy like Detmers. And I’m confident they will because our OD payroll was a joke and there should be payroll space. And don’t forget there is a large financial incentive for making the playoffs, which is obviously attractive to Jerry.

"The media" doesn't exist like it used to. James Fox might drop a knowing nugget about what he thinks the team will do, but the Athletic, ESPN and MLB guys are just spewing out targeted leaks. And the leaks are old and dead. Under the previous regime, guys like Shields would be floated for weeks until the trade happened, or in the case of Adam Dunn, from the TDL to the winter meetings. Has Getz even had name being floated that became inevitable? He may be trading for established major leaguers, but I get the feeling it's all going to be "WTF" guys who they think they can fix or upgrade.

Sure, maybe they break the bank for an Emerson Hancock, but that would surprise me.

There’s just too much competition for starting pitching and the prices are going to be outrageous once we see them. The team on the north side is somehow 62-47 and they still desperately need another starter. And that’s just two teams in competition for the postseason in the same city. Unless he stupidly overpays massively in the way of prospects, I won’t blame Getz for whatever happens by August 3rd at 5 PM.
