Thoughts on selling high on Meidroth?

Stop with the attempted comparisons with Madrigal. Two different players,

I agree. And Meidroth already has 11 home runs in 825 plate appearances, Madrigal had 4 in 992. I always hated the comparison even when we traded for him because he has so much more power

  • Feels like people have been in a rush to move on from Meidroth basically since he debuted, and I really don't understand why.

  • 12 hits this year - based on his career thus far, he's on pace to get to 3000 in his age 100 season.

  • As soon as we get a lineup with about 6 MLB-quality hitters, we want to trade one

He's going to come crashing down to earth.

Trade him ASAP!

“Come crashing down” from what??

It’s not like he’s batting .325 with 13 home runs. He’s batting .270 with 6 homers and plus defense at 2nd base. What he’s doing now he can easily continue for the next ten years and probably improve on everything. He’s just a very good, solid player who does a lot of things to help your team win.

This is one of your sillier posts.

I'll be sure to quote this when he comes crashing down. You will be looking like a damn fool, vile.

Antonacci needs to become full time 2B in the coming years.

That didn't take long! @vilehoopster

Yeah, it definitely is. Realistically I think other GMs would know he isn't for real and that big regression is coming. He probably wouldn't fetch much.

Shouldn’t we all want this to happen? He has more power than Meidroth and it looks like he will hit for a higher AVG with a higher OBP. The only question is — is Meidroth’s defense drastically better than Antonacci’s at 2B?

I wish he would stop the balancing act of pulling the ball and just go back to an on base machine contact hitter. That and his gold glove caliber defense make him valuable.

According to the scouts I follow, yes. I think Law even said this the other week.

My understanding is Meidroth is a plus defender and Antonacci is more average with potential to be a little better. Nevertheless, if Antonacci can improve in LF, staying there might remain more viable considering Bonemer and Roch will each have 2027 ETAs

Get this bum OFF MY TEAM!

Ron needs to stop making threads about players whether he likes them or not. He already jinxed Sandlin and now he's done Meidroth.

I’ve been a big Meidroth fan but after yesterday’s performance I’m wondering if Antonacci should take over 2B. Chase looked like he had no clue at the plate, we should have won that game in the bottom of the 10th if he came through with a hit but there were other bad moments too with Colson’s error and Rock walking in a run.

It was fun that he was wrong about Abreu for 6 years though

And J.Gonzalez.

I agree. He needs to take a page out of Antonacci’s book. Grind at-bats, work counts, and get on base. That’s all he needs to do. There is enough slugging on this team where he doesn’t need to be a power hitter. That’s not his strength anyway.

And who was ultimately right?

Mighty Mite, you touch on a great point there. Win or lose, MULTIPLE guys will have done either really good things (some big, some seemingly small), or really unfortunate things, as the case may be, to land either in the W column or the L column by game's end. These guys seem to carry the ongoing realization that, win or lose, they do it as a TEAM. I love the way they support one another, and don't seek to pin individual blame when things go badly (that's OUR job, hahahahaha!).

It's nice to have Sam at the ready for whatever happens.

Not sold on Meidroth.

remember when the mid 10s cubs were good and had a good farm and people were like 'oh they gotta trade X player, they already have starters here' and instead they just hoarded most of them and it was fine and they enough depth to be good for years instead of becoming a 140 loss team in 2 years? I think about that sometimes.

Otoh, hardly talking about Jorge Soler or Kyle Schwarber here.

Speaking of Cubs, this one hasn't aged well for the Mets/Javy Baez....and had nothing to do with Stearns.

By textbook definition, Meidroth is more of a complementary/glue player than a core starter that has to be extended. He packs both power and speed, but can still end up as a 3.5-4 fWAR player if can find that dusciplined high contact, high obp best version of himself.

Whether it's Antonacci Roch Bonemer...someone will replace him eventually if his ops ranges from just 650-725.

At least on a playoff caliber team.

That said he has clearly outperforned Meyer and Campbell back in Boston.
