WTF. Did you see their June schedule by chance?

Their june schedule was hard, and so is their July, August, and September schedule. Not sure how you can argue they played well recently. They've been completely mediocre which is why they went .500.

Since the Yankees series they havent played any teams I would say are good, and no Cleveland is not good.

  • I know Dominguez didn't pitch today or yesterday, but damn that is an epic fail to sign a guy to be your closer and he isn't used at any point in a pretty important game. Just damn.

I see a guy who pitches well in relief and I was convinced by comments made by Brian Bannister about the poor health results of starting pitchers with deliveries like his. No need to mess with what mostly works IMO. If they want to use him beyond a narrowly confined 1 inning role, that's cool with me but you have to treat him like any reliever who may or may not need a quick hook on any given night.

problem is the sox have 3 7th/8th inning guys and nobody who can lock down 9, everyone comes in looking like they're scared shitless and it pisses me off

And only one of those 3 BS was in a typical 1 inning save outing.

Its pretty clear the org needs to set Seranthony as the setup guy, a job he has always been good at, and Taylor in the 9th. Try it until it succeeds or massively fails, and then try something else.

Venable said last week to the papers that Siranthony was told he was going to be used in less stressful situations.

They've been basically, if not exactly .500 since the beginning of June. That's all recent and it’s not great.

*over the toughest month on our schedule

Alright man well have fun with that.

If you’re Dominguez, what’s going through your head. Been used once, in the 6th inning, since blowing back to back saves. Used Eisert ahead of him tonight and had Taylor go 2 innings instead of allowing him to face the bottom of the order. Actions speak louder than words and they’re screaming lack of trust at the moment.

I don't blame the team for the lack of trust. Dude can't throw the ball over the plate. Walking time bomb every time on the mound

Good signing

They’ve won the last 5 out of 7 series they’ve played…

Okay and if you take it back further its 5 out of 9, and again they've played .500 in that time so whats your point

Sox are 7-9 in their last 16 games.

Yet they’ve won 5 out of the last 7 series

Barely and tougher than the rest of the year, its marginal

Have fun with what? Sorry you're personally offended that they havent played well the month of June. Im just stating facts, and Im not even close to negative compared to most here

lol convenient sample.

Vasil is great in the dugout but this is the type of game you really miss having a pitcher like him to go a couple of innings after the starter is out

Have fun with your outrageous take.

This is where closing series out and getting sweeps would have been important. And getting swept by Detroit didn't help matters.

I’m not questioning the team’s actions. I’m wondering how he reacts his next time out. Hopefully he bows his neck and says “trust this,” because he could very well be closing a game tomorrow.

Its an outrageous take to say they have played .500 baseball for over a month now, and thats "not great". Right. Some of you guys are cringe. Its not even a prediction of the future, just a statement of fact.

Edited by Green Line

When looking at non-closers, I prefer the win probability based "shutdowns" and "meltdowns" stats. It's basically save vs. non-save but is based on change in win probability rather than the very narrow circumstances that qualify for a save. Most saves qualify as "shutdowns" but not all. Many blown saves qualify as "meltdowns" but not all. And then you have all the other outings that affect your likelihood of victory but don't earn a conventional stat.

Sox bullpen by shutdowns and meltdowns, entering tonight:

  • Seranthony: 11 SD, 7 MD

  • Grant: 11 SD, 3 MD

  • Newcomb: 10 SD, 2 MD

  • Hudson: 10 SD, 6 MD

  • Hicks: 5 SD, 4 MD

  • Leasure: 4 SD, 5 MD

  • Tyler Davis: 4 SD, 5 MD

  • Richards: 2 SD, 1 MD

  • Chris Murphy: 2 SD, 4 MD

  • Lucas Sims: 1 SD, 4 MD

  • Eisert: 1 SD, 2 MD

Not taking a position one way or the other just stating what the record shows.

Personally I think that difficult stretch took a little something out of them and with the pitching shortcomings it is adding up.

And their road record speaks for itself.

Only one of us is cringe in this weird ass conversation. Going 500 in June with that schedule was great for this team.

Well, my point, as clearly stated in my first post, is they’ve been fine. And if you want to use your sample size, which is less recent than my sample size, and the whole point of this is RECENT play, but whatever I will oblige, .500 ball over a month of play in a 162 season is still FINE. Yankees have lost 7 in a row. Guess what they will be when the season is over? Guess which word?

It’s easy to say “it’s a long season, it’s just one game,” but momentum is real. We had some juice after those first two in Baltimore. Then played like crap yesterday. Then crapped the bed today. Meanwhile Cleveland is riding high now after a walk off winner. Tomorrow is about as big of a must win as you can have in early July.

I can make a safe guess that the Yankees will be far ahead of the Sox when the season is over, yes.

This Sox team has never really showed much carryover from one game to another, especially when playing poorly. Probably the best evidence of Will Venable's value IMO. They're not going to be favored in any of the remaining 3 games but this game doesn't affect my expectations about the rest of the series much besides the availability of some of the relievers.

You're happy with mediocrity because youve been a White Sox fan your whole life. I get it.
