23 hours ago23 hr Anybody got any good stories from Jacob's field?(f*** Flo) https://www.soxtalk.com/forums/topic/113386-white-sox-vs-guardians-820-510pm-cdt-cueto-vs-bieber/I went to the 8/20/2022 game. We won. Johnny Cueto pitched a 5 hit 8.2 inning gem. Grandal got hurt on one of the worst sends of all time(more on that in a minute). Game had a long delay to start. So I was drinking and ranting about the team to my dad. I hated that 2022 team with a passion, and it's when I started creeping on this board. Felt like baseball purgatory. Anyway, a cleveland lady turns around and says "we're pretty miserable too. At least your team doesn't let all their good players walk. We never pay anybody." Then she went on a rant of her own. Rather than start a dumb argument about who has it worse I said, "fans of any team from the AL central are probably pretty miserable." Game was a pitchers duel. We were winning 1-0 in the 7th and Grandal hits a lead off double. We were all wondering why no pinch runner? Andrus gets a base hit and they send Grandal and we are already laughing at this point. Then he's out by a mile and goes down. There were two random White Sox fans sitting next to us and we were all just dying laughing. Because that play pretty much summed up the 2022 White Sox and all you could do was laugh or cry. Then I noticed all the cleveland fans had turned around and were gaping at us like we were monsters who celebrate our player getting hurt. But that one chick from earlier gave me a smile and a nod and said I see why you were complaining. So yeah, there might be some cleveland fans who think we are worse than yankees fans and it's partly my fault and I apologize haha. Anyway, we already had some terrible baserunning plays this series so we got that out of the way. Let's get Burke motivated by the ghost of Johnny Cueto and have him pitch a gem tonight!

Their guy was once complaining that every member of that 90's team, Belle, Ramirez, Lofton, Vizquel, Alomar, Thome - were all going to wind up on the White Sox in free agency. Lo and behold...

Lo and behold...I'm guessing the station was WWWE radio.Saw this a few days ago, didn't believe it so I looked it up and it is true. Cleveland has made the playoffs seven of the last 10 years.Like Tampa and Milwaukee they have an organizational system and it works for them. Seems to be predicated on pitching, fundamental play and good defense.I'm envious. The only 'story' I can remember about that place was this item:June 2, 1995 - With the Sox having blown four straight games to the Indians, and off to an 11-20 start, manager Gene Lamont was fired and replaced by abrasive, taciturn third base coach Terry Bevington. Bevington would turn out to be a disaster on the field and in the clubhouse and the long-term effects of the way Lamont was dismissed would cause his mentor and former Sox coach Jim Leyland to turn down overtures by owner Jerry Reinsdorf to take over after Bevington was removed before the start of the 1998 season. He’d be replaced by first time manager Jerry Manuel.

Their idea of success is to LOSE. Every year in the playoffs. The Indians/Guardians can shove it. They don't like us. We don't like them. I only root for them when they play the cubs. Happy Independence Day. See any Redcoats shoot'em on sight.

5 hours ago5 hr Biggest single game of my lifetime was late in 1959 when Sox went there for a 1 game series with the pennant on the line. Yanks not a factor that year. WGN actually televised the road night game. Sox won a nail biter.
5 hours ago5 hr My only personal knowledge of the people of Cleveland is from when I went to school in Ohio. I never met anyone who actually lived in Cleveland, they all seemed to be from a place called Shaker Heights.
4 hours ago4 hr Growing up as a kid Cleveland made national news when the Cuyahoga River was on fire. To this day that image comes to mind when I think of Cleveland.

Have that game in my radio library:September 22, 1959 - The White Sox clinched the American League pennant beating the Indians 4-2 in Cleveland.Al Smith and “Jungle” Jim Rivera hit back-to-back home runs in the game. Smith also threw out former Sox star “Minnie” Minoso trying to score a run.A crowd estimated by the Chicago Sun-Times at 125,000 was at Midway Airport to greet the Sox when they returned home. All this on a night when Chicago fire commissioner Robert Quinn ordered the air raid sirens turned on to celebrate the title, causing fear and panic in a number of non-baseball fans who thought the Russians were attacking. The Sox would wind up winning the 1959 pennant by five games over the Tribe with a mark of 94-60. While they were near the bottom in most offensive categories the pitching was stellar and the defense had three Gold Glove winners in Nellie Fox, Luis Aparicio and Sherm Lollar. The Sox also won 35 games that season by one run with 15 losses.

That 6-4-3 DP happened earlier in the game. Edited 25 minutes ago25 min by The Mighty Mite
