I will say I’m intrigued by how much money they now have to spend in this draft. They will basically be able to restock the system in one day and I trust Shirley’s decisions. Tomorrow will be fun.

They'll likely get 2-3 very intriguing players after 1-1, but that won't exactly restock a system that has fallen well back into the 20s.

Or they can try to go over with 5-7 guys and spread out the pool more thinly.

I just don’t agree with this take. You think market value of a comp pick is a major league ready LH hitting infielder with plus plate discipline & power who brings a solid glove at multiple spots

  • Look at Ray Ray Run

If pick 34th is worth something, wonder what pick 15 is worth! What a dog s%*# trade.

  • I beg to differ, Pal

This is such a win win for me personally. I get to keep seeing Gonzo in PNC and the Sox hopefully turn 34 into a stud HS pitcher.

I get the angst here from some from a value of picks standpoint....but most of you all s%*# on Jacob so hard the last couple years you all sound silly. Gonzo is a guy and if they are willing to trade him....they are investing in Mune and Vargas long term...and that is better than any form of Gonzalez.

It's actually more diabolical my friend....Pooh Bear was Getzy's favorite as a child...it will be traumatic on an epic scale.

Ok… Pooh dipped in liquid poop placed inside of a paper bag that you light on fire.

Compromise.

Definitely think this takes Lackey out of the mix for 1:1

You think it's Roch?

He broke out of that slump. What I am saying is that against major league pitching he did not look like a guy that could only hit at Charlotte. Plus he played good defense at not his natural position.

Maybe some people don’t realize he’s not a 1B? The Pirates are going to play him on the left side of the infield which is where he spent most of his career. He can also play 2B and looked pretty good at 1B despite being new to the position. He doesn’t need to be Murakami for the bat to play up at other infield spots.

Chase Meidroth is on pace for like a 2.8 win season by just being a league average hitter and providing quality 2B defense. Jacob may not be that level of defender at 2B, but he has almost hit as well as Chase despite adjusting to the majors and enduring a massive slump. If he can just be a slightly better hitter than Chase, he’s a very valuable player.

Jacob Gonzalez had zero future on this team. There is nowhere he could play, unless someone got injured. So it was absolutely the right move to trade him to clear a 40 man spot.

The only question is whether we could have gotten more for him from a different team. I’m not so sure we could have, but nobody really knows for sure.

But why did we have to trade him now? Most teams are 100% focused on the draft and not looking to buy for or sell from their major league roster. Obviously the answer is they wanted the Comp A pick and this was the price to get it. That being said, we could have traded Jacob at the deadline or in the offseason and still dealt with the roster crunch then. And conceptually, there would have likely been a bigger market at those times.

The white Sox are not making draft decisions based on their current rosters handedness - I hope at least.

I think when you're a bit short on RHH and the top guys are RH and quicker to the bigs it makes a difference. You don't have to take Emerson #1 if you have HS guys in mind with your other earlier picks.

You can go a long way in the Central division pounding teams into submission with a lineup that includes Bonemer and Roch replacing Meidroth and Acuna. You'll just have to find a way to keep getting pitching.

As I said before big trades for pitching are more talking points than based on real possibilities.

We just traded our number two prospect per Kiley to do so though and lost a trade chip that could have been used to augment the major league team at the deadline in the process. We have simply shifted a more advanced asset for a less advanced one and have lost some trade flexibility in the near term.

Tomorrow will be a fuckton of fun though.

Maybe they just put a lot of value on the comp pick and re-stocking the farm more than we think. Maybe JR isn't keen on paying too much extra money right now especially if you're going to make a big effort to resign Murakami in the off season.

Will the new guy just take Eiserts place or is McDougal ready?

I don’t think this new guy cracks the 40 man roster this year…that’s what makes him somewhat attractive. Paul Janish has confirmed McDougal is coming, but not my guess is that will be post the All Star break. I could see Schweitzer get the call in the short term.

Quick takes from this trade:

  1. Probably Roch tomorrow.

  2. Makes the draft even more fun tomorrow.

  3. I feel like we got 85 cents on the dollar. I understand why you would think to move Gonzalez, but feel like we are just a bit short considering the season he had.

  4. I wonder if this constrains us from being able to trade him for an MLB piece for the backend of our pen. It makes me think that Getz won't be a buyer at the deadline because Gonzalez was a piece you could move.

  5. Oh no, Brandon Eisert! ( just kidding)

  6. I do like the White Sox prioritizing the draft. Now, please do so with the international market.

We should start seeing the rewards of our new LatAM program next year. It’s hard to believe we have lasted this long with only a partial functioning program.
