I feel like Colson has to start his swing earlier than usual which looks like he's straight up guessing most of the time, compare that to Vargas who can start his swing later after the pitch and make those micro adjustments to foul off stuff that would easily get a whiff from Colson

Colson has 94th% bat speed but 2% whiff/1% squared up. he is just really bad at actually hitting baseballs

whatever Fuller did needs to be done again because it's completely gone now

I think Mune being back will help Colson, they talked a lot about swapping tips and scouting reports as guys with similar LH slug/high whiff profiles.

Colson especially highlighted how he never really had someone to bounce things off of like that pre-Mune.

  • Missed the ENTIRE game (wife wanted to watch Project Hail Mary) Who had Antonacci at an 800 OPS at the ASB? Even moreso, the entire lineup at 700 OPS or more (minus Teel for ABs). Great 1st half boys

Who was the total knucklehead who, early in the thread, said Sandlin should be starting today over Schultz. That guy was waaay off. Oh wait, it was me. What a goofus.

easily the best I've seen Schultz look so far, granted it's the injury ridden A's but if there was an offense to inspire confidence, this is it

And we're out of challenges...

That's a bad challenge, Mune.

All the move on from Chase, the let’s trade him now group, they seem to not be aware of how good his defense is, his range; especially how quickly he turns the double play relay, like he showed in the 1st.

Sox as a team are constantly fooled by front-door sinkers for some reason. It's a "good" pitch but one that is supposed to be very risky for the pitcher.

I have just learned to live with Colson looking like absolute booty when he's not clobbering a bunch of home runs in a short time span.

Yeah that's just what he is, and that isn't really a huge problem if the guys around him aren't like that.

If he took more walks it wouldn't be as bad.

That's just the kind of hitter he is. It's great when he's hitting homers in low leverage situations, but he's probably one of the last guys you want in a clutch situation because of how bad he can look against well executed pitches.

I thought Colson was going to snap out of it right there.

Wasted opportunity there.

It's why Mune's profile is so much more bearable. He has similar issues to Colson, but he walks at an elite rate.

I still think the Colson can't hit in the clutch thing is mostly sample size theater. His "clutch" when measured as whether his performance differs based on leverage is literally zero for his career, meaning there is no correlation between the leverage index and his results (fun fact: Ozzie Guillen is one of the most clutch ever by this metric...not that he was a great hitter in high leverage, but he hit notably better in high leverage than he did any other time)

Is this one of the reasons they took Roch as the first pick?

I hope we are seeing the real and future Shultz so far today.

Schultz settling in nicely.

They keep wanting to move Colson off SS. His defensive issues as of late might mean they could be kind of right. It's probably Roch's position in a year or 2.

I think they took Roch because he's going to be MLB-ready in a year or 2, which matches our timeline much better than someone like Emerson. And he hits right handed which this team and farm system needs more of.

My dream is Colson at third, Vargas/Mune at 1st/DH, Notch at 2nd and Caleb in left.

At first I was against it. Now I like the idea of rotating Vargas and Montgomery between DH and 3rd. The Dream of signing Mune long term is still alive for me. Ant at 2nd and Bonemer in LF.

What’s with the sunglasses, Brooke? Looks like she’s going skiing.

Looks like Smith had a nice little comeback today, too: 4 IP, 1 ER, 1 BB, & 5 K

If we can get him back to somewhat of his first half form last year that would be massive.

If they don’t re-sign Mune I think Colson winds up at 1B, 3B is Vargas’ best position.

Yeah he's settled in a bit which is good to see. Hopefully we can get a couple more solid innings from him.

Alot of very talented pitchers will regularly go through alot of growing pains in their first year. People need to be patient. If the knee issues aren't chronic, Schultz could easily be the ace of this staff soon.
