From Merkin's story tonight:

Entering Tuesday, White Sox catchers ranked last in the Majors with a .512 OPS. They're a bottom 10 unit in terms of home runs (9), but they're also last in average (.166) and on-base percentage (.243), according to MLB research.

Steve Yeager batted .197 one year for the Dodgers.

Any catcher than can hit it seems like organizations want to move them out of that position.

A lot of people didn't appreciate just how valuable iron man AJ Pierzynski was.

Well that would put the time frame from around Labor Day to very, very late in September.

That's not bad. Decent chance to be back for the last 3-4 weeks of regular season.

Wow. Good Teel news? It can’t be!

History appears to be on your side.

Easy to see why he was gutted in this brief interview. Seems like the range is due to the level of the strain still yet to be determined.

Kyle Teel spoke before tonight's game and provided an update on his ankle injury:

At least an ankle injury is not as bad than an Achilles tear, which would have pulled him out for the season and more.

For a team that is so often wrong about injury recovery time and associated delays/setbacks, one would think they wouldn’t quickly readjust their initial timeline and just see what happens. Cuz like you both said, they are usually wrong. I mean, it’s almost like we saw the same player go through the same exact situation once this year already…

Yea, the team didn’t readjust the timeline, it was just Teel himself saying in an interview today that his evaluation today went well and was told it could be 5 to 8 weeks.

Silly question, perhaps, but if this is now the second cleat-related injury...maybe the type of cleat that Teel uses needs to be re-thought? I get that these are freak accidents in a way, but still.

He actually switched from metal to plastic cleats after the last injury.

Eric Kratz on Foul Territory basically said Teel's defensive fundamentals need some work and that's why he hurt himself

my question is what is Mckinven even doing since we hired him

How? His cleat got stuck in the clay. You could see it on the replay from behind the plate.

Except this is not the Hahn years any more. Naturally teams do not want to give unreal expectations for early return because setbacks do occur. Why is it necessary to keep expecting disasters . s%*# happens that's life. Get over it. Sometimes life also provides better options from a disaster, Happy for Teel if the shorter timeline is true but it's not like we were losing great production from him, only the hope that he would get over his rust.

Maybe what they need is just a solid defensive backup catcher who can hit a smidge better than the current versions of Quero and Romo like Torrens of the Mets. Multiple years left, only 30 years old but not too costly.

I think Kratz is just being a blowhard TBH

It is nice that Teel wants to recover and return as soon as possible, but I don't expect to see him start games until next year. Three injuries, one after anothe,r would have been hard to fathom, but now it has to make one wonder, how reliable will Kyle be moving forward? My question for him would be what can or will you do differently to try to avoid the kind of injuries you have sustained ? As one of Teel's earliest supporters I am very disappointed with all of this.

These are the White Sox remember?

Until from a medical standpoint I see things getting better I'll reserve judgement.

It is within your rights to torture yourself .

I'm a student of White Sox history as you know. I can only react to what has taken place.

If that changes and I'm still alive to see, say when Ishbia takes over, then maybe I'll have to change my beliefs.

Many seasons sometimes many decades it's torture just to be a White Sox fan.

But it doesn't have to be when the past is over and you can live in the present care free until they actually do ruin it again. I do not anticipate it. We had people here saying that 2030 looked optimistic for competing after recent events in the past year.

A new rich owner doesn't solve all problems . Look at the Mets. It has its own set of problems. There is only 1 world Series winner a year so disappointment is build into sports. Perhap moreso as a Sox fan but 3 or 4 years in a row of making the playoffs would be a White Sox golden era. More than 5 in a row would seem miraculous and you'd still be disappointed if none of those resulted in a Championship.

Shut him down.

Plus the Sox didnt get the Teel injury timeline wrong , he got reinjured. People just keep inventing stories to suit their agenda of constant dysfunction even if there's very little if any evidence of it in the Getz era because it's been only a small period of time. Medical people say a timeline and if it take 9 weeks instead of 8 people get bent out of shape. People heal differently it's why they give should a broad range and even that doesn't cover it sometimes especially in a position so demanding as catcher. But sure lets just treat him as a robot non catcher.

No wonder ptatc rarely makes an appearance anymore. Too many civilian medical experts spewing nonsense. last time I saw him he was questioning Lip's medical knowledge . Yea I'd go with Ptatc .
