August 24Aug 24 Castillo is teetering on the brink. Pitching well once every 4 starts might get a guy released depending on the circumstances. My opinion is they could have made the trade with a lesser prospect. BTW Smith is still crushingit. Edited August 24Aug 24 by zisk add

I did say when they acquired him that it wouldn’t shock me if we start seeing “DFA Castillo” threads starting around May of next year.

What is Getz trading for pitchers with 5+ERAs and sub .600 OPS for anyway? Getz really needs an experienced assistant to deal with these GMs; he's consistently overpaying for these waiver-wire talents that the other GMs are overtly trying to dump

Yesterday at 03:01 PM1 day Watched some videos of Castillo from 2020. He’s really changed his mechanics. To me, he seems to be throwing too much drifting to the third base side. At times, he looks like a side armer. It’s crazy how much his tenure reminds me of Shields so far

It’s crazy how much his tenure reminds me of Shields so farThrows a lot sidearm and there's no deception and maybe little extension (haven't checked.) And when he does throw sideline seems like he leads with his elbow as if he's throwing inside out . He has to get on top of the ball otherwise his pitches will be flat and won't break.
Yesterday at 05:51 PM1 day He's going to have to reinvent himself in the offseason. Small silver lining but at least he was able to go 4 last night and not completely melt down in the first couple innings. That said, it was a miracle he did not, a lot of hard hit balls found a glove. Trade looks awful right now is what it is, at least his team is picking him up.

If he keeps blowing up, he’s no longer here to use as a bigger trade chip for a starter with control at some point (this offseason, next year, next offseason, etc)I would think that if they could target a 6th rounder out of somebody else's farm system to teach up and get them hitting 30 minor league HRs, they could do that more than once.

We act like, "Oh, noes, they traded the one guy they could have used to trade for somebody," as if that's the only surprise minor league guy who will come along. I think they have at least 4-6 guys like that from Kannapolis on up who have a similar value to Boston Smith. The TDL is nuts, and it sure sounds like the asking for guys like Detmers was way out there. It is possible Getz wasn't the only suitor for Castillo.

If so, Getz is a miracle worker.Castillo was worth -0.7 WAR when we got him. He was awful and he looks completely done. Not only did we give up a guy who was absolutely mashing, but we are on the hook for Castillo next season (minus Dominguez of course).I don't understand the mental gymnastics you are performing to defend this terrible trade. It's ok to admit Getz screwed the pooch. Edited 21 hours ago21 hr by ron883

Oh, but they have to lead the minor leagues in OPS? Do they also have to be named Boston Smith to make it work for you? It's silly to pretend that we had one player in our system who would bring trade interest. I don't understand the mental gymnastics you're performing to trash this trade. Thinking people can agree on what Getz was trying to do. Acquire a pitcher who they could work with and not pay a lot for in prospects. Why would I complain about that? We didn't trade Caleb Bonemer and Carlson to acquire Detmers. That's great.

20 hours ago20 hr sodomagicbeing considered for Sept recallBoston Smith has only been in the Mariners organization for about two minutes (give or take a month or so), but he's already become one of our favorite prospects. At the time of the Luis Castillo trade, we thought it was too good to be true that Smith was included as part of the return package, and since then he has only gone on to reinforce this sentiment. A player who saw a meteoric rise through the White Sox's minor league system, has been even better since arriving in the Pacific Northwest. Edited 20 hours ago20 hr by caulfield12

He was one of the worst pitchers in the league when we traded for him and he continues to be one of the worst. He is 33 years old. He is under contract for $24 million next session. The guy we traded isn't a blue chip prospect, but he's on fire, leads the minors in OPS and appears to have a legit bat.Minus Sir Anthony's contract, we owe him $14m next season. That is literally 15% of our current payroll. We have a notoriously cheap owner. That's the worst part of the trade. But somehow you can't see how that was a bad trade. I feel like you're trolling at this point with the senseless positivity. Edited 20 hours ago20 hr by ron883
