8/9 Sox vs G Words. Nobody goes on vacation to Cleveland. Rubber Match. 1:10, CHSN

I have to admit I was a bit nervous when Ramirez came up in the ninth, PHEW.

Big win under adverse weather conditions testing the bull pen.

Does Will know what inning it is

Posted this before the 5th. Was really confused with Venable's bullpen decisions today. If you know Taylor cant go then McDougal or Richards need to come in after Smith to push your better pitchers later down the line so we dont have one of them for the 9th.

Couldn't catch the end of this one so went back and read the gamethread.....and you guys still had me convinced that Richards was gonna blow this one and I already knew the final score.

I thought McDougal was going to have to pitch, and I wanted him in a low leverage position.

Fortunately Ramirez is not 100%, and could not beat us this time.

One final comment.. our catchers have been terrible, and the two wild pitches in the ninth would have been stopped by a better catcher than Quero. Our catchers have been unable to block/catch balls on the dirt all season long.

I think he was hoping that they would be able to tack on insurance runs in the later innings so the end of the game would be more of a mop up situation than high leverage. Didn’t play out like that but thankfully it worked out anyway.

Hate Quero all you want but just by the eye test he looks more competent at the plate than Romo

Quero is the least bad. Who is that guy Drew Romo, he is bad - quoting Ozzie the other night.

I'd much rather use Richards in the 8th against 678 in the order than in the 9th against 912.

The 8th was 5, 6, 7. Seven got a hit so 8 batted thus 9, 1, 2 in the 9th

Great job managing this one by Will. Series win!!

Love the sarcasm.

Going to the game on Tuesday and my lucky green Sox cap with the shamrock will be riding a 2 game win streak since I pulled it out yesterday.

I cannot stand will venable, he ain't the answer

Hope that our next manager will be a successful, experienced MLB manager, not a first time unproven manager like Ventura, Grifol and Venable.

Romo as starting catcher is analogous to the Sox getting a red card in a soccer game and having to play a man short.

No Mercy

Great job Bonemer. I told that Panic King that the Sox would rebound with 2 of 3 from Cleveland. He never learns. Can't just enjoy an unexpectedly good season . Sox are in as good of a position as they have been all season because the division sucks and its the Sox division for the taking if they just continue to beat division opponents.

Only 2 of the starting pitchers traded at the deadline won their 1st game , Gausman and Dustin May everyone else either lost of was a no decision.

That's what makes a very good HR hitter. Not everyone can do it .

4 BB? Holy hell. At least no one scored and they won

I’ve had to walk away from numerous games the last few weeks out of frustration, anxiety, whatever you want to call it. Just enough to reduce my stress levels.

I probably watched the same number of games the last few years (though fewer innings, I’m sure), but 3 years of 100+ losses almost made me forget what it’s like to be a baseball fan.

I've watched so much baseball over the years that the losses in a season like this where its been a gift don't bother me. I'm enjoying it for the most part except for our fans freaking out and constantly panicking. I just don't understand how anyone panics over 1 start from Castillo. He'll have about 30 more starts between now and next year unless a lot of next season is cancelled.

It would be great to get in the playoffs but it's not a given . If we do ,cool ,it would be nice to win a playoff series but honestly if there was a poll now that asked do you think the Sox will be playing in the World Series I'm pretty sure only a small minority of fans here are delusional enough to think that will happen.

I honestly though that our chances were just about the same before the trade deadline as after it. But it was necessary to show that you'd take a shot at improving the team. We'll see how it goes.
