Yep, everything Getz did was about playing for the future as much as this year with the year(s) of control that each player he acquired had remaining.

But Boston gave up a huge package for Adley and Stephenson wasn’t even traded. I don’t have a problem with the Bart acquisition. He would have been a good add going forward if he didn’t break his hand after three games.

Brazoban was a nice acquisition but don’t think Doyle was needed at all. But yes, Getz should be grilled for not acquiring a second starter, even if it was a rental starter.

Castillo was very complimentary of Romo after his second start. I don't think Luis will start posting on Sox Talk about it, but the pitchers must feel comfortable with Romo behind the plate.

Pitchers must really not like throwing to Quero. Keeping Romo around doesnt make much sense

we somehow think the farm system is stocked. It's not since they brought up a lot of guys but no stud pitcher in that bunch.

The Sox are not in the same league where you can be like the Dodgers trading guys in the minors who could play elsewhere.

One of these days I hope to get an explanation of why Romo continues to remain with the team while Quero is like a Yo-Yo with his trips to Charlotte and back.

The goal is to supplement this team to make the playoffs. As much as I like this team, it just doesn't look like a championship team just yet. Peters, Braden, Colson, Mune all go on long cold spells. Catching is a hole. Starting pitching works fine for a .500 team waiting on some butch arms from the minors. The bullpen alternates between solid and rickety.

So, seriously, a "go for it" trade deadline would have picked up 2-3 stud starters (Castillo, Detmers, Gausman), an arm or two for the bullpen, a catcher, 2 stud OFs, with Braden being the return for somebody. Bonemer and Carlson would probably be the price for somebody. The upgrades aren't 'league ace' level that Skubal represents. You've cleaned out the farm system to get a team that might win a playoff series, then start rebuilding all over again next season.

That, to me, doesn't make a shred of common sense. That would be completely irresponsible, and I'd expect that to be the kind of deadline that Getz follows up by leaving the organization to take a better job elsewhere, because he would be mired in 80-win-ville for the next 2-3 seasons.

You’re probably right but one year ago 99% of us were praising Quero, the guy fell off the mountain top.

I like Quero more overall, but as folks have said....you can't let your setup tell the other team what is coming. Romo is ass, but better defensively.

Maybe I have an opinion and maybe it's not always poignant but I think the white Sox should score more runs

In the MLBtraderumors comments section it was said that in games that Romo starts which is 45 games if you include the one he took over for Teel in the 2nd inning, the Sox are 27-18 with 5 shutouts.

In the 75 games started by other catchers the Sox are 35-40 with 3 shutouts. I'd start Romo every day after seeing those numbers . Probably wasn't coincidence that Romo started Castillo's 2nd game and Castillo praised him. 9 over .500 vs 5 games below .500 ( in 30 more games)

I'm not aiming this at anybody in particular, but "that makes absolutely no sense", is really getting overused on social media, and elsewhere. Keeping Romo and optioning Quero makes "some" sense. The sense lies in Romo not tipping off the other team as to what pitch is going to be thrown. The sense also lies in pitchers being more comfortable throwing to him. I would think those two factors would contribute some "sense" to the discussion would exist on some people's bingo card. Oops, 2024 called and wants its saying back. LOL.

That, plus the fact that multiple articles have mentioned that the Sox don't consider him a catching option on the big league club because pitchers don't like throwing to him.
