After Castillo, Urquidy has the most post season experience. Hes definitely the only starting pitcher who has started as World Series game.

Our 2026 White Sox are far from a great team but they are something special to win today after 2 heartbreaking losses. Urquidy was outstanding as was the defense and some timely hitting.

Don't think anyone had Urquidy pitching like that on their Bingo card. That's why you stockpile as many starting pitchers as you can at AAA.

He was good for the Astros from 2019-2022, 2023 he started dealing with more injuries, had TJ surgery in June 2024, and came back last year. So maybe he's more the guy he was earlier in his career pre-injury.

Urquidy's peripherals are actually really good: 2.96 FIP and 3.13 xFIP. xERA before today was 3.63. It's probably around 3 now, if not lower. His BABIP was insanely high with the Pirates and he was a bit unlucky. We don't need him to pitch like he did today, but if he can eat innings and keep us in games, that's more than enough.

The way his stuff looked today, he'd probably slot ahead of Castillo, if he can keep it up the rest of the way. To me at least.

Tbh, the White Sox have a history of surprising pitching performances coming from unexpected players in this series. Nick Masset, Felix Diaz, Giolito in his historically bad year, etc.

Great memory, but how dare you forget a homer and no hitter for 5-6 innings in same game?

Your first place Chicago White Sox get the shutout W to improve to 66-60, Getting very close to that preseason win total line with 36 games remaining.

The crosstown ends in a split, with both teams winning their home set and almost every game being close...kind of what you might expect from two good squads going at it.

The road trip overall was some good playoff-like experience for a young team, and they come out of it 4-2 with a strong argument that they could/should have done even better.

MIN won, DET lost, CLE plays later. Division lead at 4 with a run of games against the Twins coming up soon.

7 game homestand up first though, would be nice to create some distance after getting no help from ATL.

Urquidy player of the game, with Braden as a close second. Locked in after the pickoff and decided to just win the game.

Just saw video of that throw by Braden....damn!!!!

Yep, they could have gone 6-0 on the road trip.

BTW I don’t think I’ve ever disliked a player as much as that punk PCA and that includes many guys down thru the years on the Red Sox and Yankees.

We already had one, I know all of you guys know, just want to write it down

1906

White Sox 4

Cubs 2

And very soon after we were in a World War. Coincidence? I think not.

Little remembered fact is @oldsox streaked the field during game 2.

Although, streaking in 1906 was like running on the field without your hat and overcoat.

He flashed some ankle and got tarred and feathered, making the south side chicken man the first mlb mascot.

Ok I’ll stop.

I thought he looked much better against Detroit than his stats showed. Granted, I didn't think he looked this good...

Most of us are meatballs who only think they know something in hindsight .

Sure lets scapegoat Getz because we don't have Derek Hill any more while everyone else thinks he'll get Exec of the year.

Garbage pickup cost nothing played well. Thought we had better with a young cost controlled Everson Peirara. Made sense on every level except defense and out of options. Too bad he couldn't stay on the field.

Do we really need to cry about every talent that got away from the bottom of the roster where the churn is constant ? I'm looking at you @caulfield12 Someone puts up .5 WAR and there's a guy to point it out like its some huge revelation.

Sometimes it works too. Peters, Urquidy, Getting Fedde back again. Hudson. Peirera was a great find until he was as brittle as Eloy. Still may work with Doyle. He started fine then slumped . That's how it goes from week to week with those guys who play part time at the bottom of the 26 man. Find some perspective. Oh no our GM and young players makes mistakes like every GM and every young player in the history of GM's and young players do.

I doubt fat Sandburg would survive it.

Who are you talking about? Fat Sandburg ? You do know Ryne Sandberg died almost a year ago I hope and it's another SandbUrg.

Probably because he didn't really stand on the rubber and get set until pretty late in the pitch clock. What a weird thing to get worked up about.

That's weird. Guy was thrilled to get picked up by the Sox and given the opportunity . He pitched lights out and can't show it on the field ? I guess we're not past the sore losers pissed because you think they are showing you up stuff.
