But that's not what they were going for. They weren't looking for rentals and I don't blame them because rentals are a crap shoot - the one they did go for out of dire need broke his hand after 3 games.

It also was going to be REALLY hard to get 2 or 3 starters of any note at the deadline, plus a better outfielder, plus a catcher, without completely draining the minors. Foster Griffin is probably the guy they missed out on the hardest.

Bart isn't necessary a rental either. He isn’t a free agent until 2028. They could obviously non-tender him but he’s arbitration eligible in the upcoming offseason

    The correct move.

This is an important series. If the Guardians go on a big run, which isn't impossible given they have the easiest remaining schedule, Texas is the biggest competition for the final wild card spot.

  • I have been just trying to enjoy this improbable season, but I am getting a little anxious to step a boot on the divisions neck.

Good stuff…I will say thought that taking a step at the big picture for rest of the season, it doesn’t matter who they acquired at the deadline, if Colson, Mune, Meidroth and Antonacci continue to perform this way, they won’t make the postseason. Batting average is clearly not as important as it used to be, but they’re hitting .229 as a team since the ASB. It’s really coming into play lately with RISP.

Colson I dunno. He looks completely lost. I think the others should rebound though.

They also need to figure out what to do with bases loaded. That's been embarrassing lately. It'll probably correct itself though.

Still not sure how it's an advantage in any way to have control over Castillo Brazoban Bart and Doyle.

Rentals would have been better with Bonemer and Cholowsky on the way.

Could have turned B.Smith/M.Adams/Vielma into a better option than Castillo.

Great point.

Cleveland has won 5 of 6 getting to play the best of the best; SF, COL, LAA. Only 2.5 games up now and Cleveland still has 2 more with LAA then play KC at home

They have now won five in a row.

Ozzie still loves Alex Cintron. Hitting coach for the Rangers. Ozzie thinks he had the scouting report for Urquidy since his days with the Astros.

Pretty simple scouting report: “Don’t swing.”

Just gotta take care of business the next two games with Kay and Burke while hoping the Halos can bring one down.

Then operation SWEEP THE CENTRAL resumes.

We really need to get our rotation straightened out because it’s embarrassing to coin toss at best having a chance to be competitive in 3 of every 5 games.

They should be rolling with Kay / Burke / Castillo / Fedde / Thorpe for the next five to see if that gives us more stability.

Then next time through, depending on results, they’ll have to plug Martin in for Castillo or Thorpe.

Getting the rotation back in order will be the key factor in if they’re able to complete the mission at hand and will also tell us if they’ll even be an actual threat in the playoffs or not.

Of course, if good ol Getzy had gotten another starter - we wouldn’t be up against a wall with such limited options.

Oh well… onward we go!

Colson is one of the strangest young dudes I’ve seen. He is either on point and dangerous or is an automatic strikeout that looks like a shell.

And it seems like he is really fragile in falling back into the “lost” category even when he finds it.

Recent example: He clicked and for a 7 game stretch was hitting something like .330 / .385 / .560 and then BAM - after one at bat he seemed to completely lose all confidence in himself and his approach.

I do think that the offense is feeling the weight of the team only having basically two reliable starters. It’s taxing not only the pen but also our hitters.

Think of it - imagine knowing that to win 3 of 5 games, you’ll have to likely score 7+ runs and are likely to need to come from behind multiple times each game.

There’s enough pressure as it is for a young club contending down the stretch as it is - add in a factor like this and I can see why they may be choking in big RISP spots.

This is another reason why I think it is vital that they get the rotation stabilized during this upcoming stretch because in doing so, I think it will help ease the pressure on the rest of the team as a whole.

It’s also why I’m pissed at Getz for not getting us another SP.
