The Sox dumped a total of $12 million in salary for this year and next year combined by sending Dominguez to the Mariners in the trade. While that wasn’t a bad thing, it means Castillo is only costing the Sox $30 million for the rest of this season and all of next season, and he’s only under contract for one more season.Do you truly think that Jerry would approve Getz signing a younger starter for multiple years at $25+ million per year via free agency in the upcoming offseason? If you do, you’re kidding yourself. There’s a reason they wasted $30 million on this bum starter nearing retirement. That’s cheap compared to free agency.
