I agree but JR isn't going to sign off on paying him a shitload of money to not work.

Why in the f*** would they trade for a guy they thought they could work with, take on his salary, then dump him after 5 starts? Any owner would be colossally stupid to do that. People whose career in baseball consists of more than watching the TeeVee saw something in him. They're going to give him some ride to see what works and what doesn't. It's not because Reinsdorf's cheap.

Reinsdorf is often cheap. But that’s not the problem here. Fans want to sell the farm for ‘26. They are not going to be reasonable.

You know they won't do that . It's 5 starts into a 2 ,possibly 3 year commitment. He could turn it around next start and go on a roll and pitch well in the playoffs. You just don't release a guy that you are already committed to, especially with their best guys struggling and he is one of them. Who's going to do better ? Sandlin, Thorpe, Urquidy, Cannon , Schultz ?

Sandlin will do better. Any of them will actually.

Because he sucks.

This is a half truth. The Sox dumped a total of $12 million in salary for this year and next year combined by sending Dominguez to the Mariners in the trade. While that wasn’t a bad thing, it means Castillo is only costing the Sox $30 million for the rest of this season and all of next season, and he’s only under contract for one more season.

Do you truly think that Jerry would approve Getz signing a younger starter for multiple years at $25+ million per year via free agency in the upcoming offseason? If you do, you’re kidding yourself. There’s a reason they wasted $30 million on this bum starter nearing retirement. That’s cheap compared to free agency. This is their “ace” acquisition for next season as well.

Like @Lip Man 1 always says, “Penny wise, pound foolish”. This is how the White Sox operate. Nothing has changed under Jerry.

As always reading game threads after a win is hilarious. Go Sox. They’re winning the division and getting the 2 seed. Will managed a great game tonight.

Sorry, that's pretty dumb.

This is incoherent. Liptak has one narrative that isn't correct. The end.

When Castillo goes up and is throwing BP the first two innings and dancing out of constant trouble for the next two, it’s dicey. 😆

Especially after his last outing. Eek.

Anyhow… SWEEP THE CENTRAL!!!

They need to release Castillo tomorrow. He's done.

Not going to happen.

Kremer vs Kremer

Kremer in O's uniform Sox killer

Kremer in Twins uniform cannon fodder.

Sox keep winning, but Santa's naughty list get updated,

Off the naughty list: Colson and Mune

On the naughty list: Sox starting pitchers

I don't see how they can start Castillo next week. We got away with it last night cuz we scored 4 before he took the mound, and the bullpen was great. Meanwhile, Boston Smith has over 30 homers so far.

We don't really have anyone else. Just hope he figures his s%*# out. I'm way more comfortable going to him then a rookie.

If that release him he sucks worked every time somebody on this board said somebody sucked or was a bust I could name another 3 guys who'd be off this roster and guess that someone at some point said another 5 sucked and it would mostly be from the starting pitching staff and our best hitter and our SS with 28 bombs. Castillo will either prove you right or wrong but it won't because of his 1st 5 starts. There's a middle ground between sucking and his 1 great start that proved he still has what it takes. He just needs the time to find it.

It makes no financial sense to dump a guy without ever seeing if he could turn it around . That's what's dumb.

How about Thorp?

It's more like pick your poison. Probably best to leave these decisions to the adults. They've done all right getting the team this far.

He's just another choice. Probably will get a shot after Sept 1st. Maybe not. Hard to tell what they are thinking.

He's not a guy they expect to go 6 innings and if you're picking based or performance and ability to pitch 6 then there's not much to go on except a short minor league performance after TJ surgery.

Just FYI, I was responding to the poster who said he should be released.

He shouldn't have been acquired in the first place, of course, but regardless of if you agree with that or not JR wouldn't let them do that.

And I agree with you in the sense that you don't get a guy like this only to release him after five starts.

The question is, if he keeps stinking up the place, when do the Sox let him go?
