The "intent" was obvious. I almost wonder if the successes this season kind of went to their head, beacuse even when you look at those successes, they took years to get Vargas right, for example. Even a Tristan Peters, who had a full spring training, took until May to start putting up numbers.

Again, I think if you were going into the winter with spring training ahead of you, and pay winter prices to bring these guys in, you get more of a benefit of the doubt. But thinking you could fix these guys in the middle of a playoff race seems pretty risky, and not how we have seen these things work out in the last few years. But of course they didn't ask about that distinction. I think the Sox have been extremely lucky at how bad everyone else around them has been, as those moves could have easily cost them the playoffs if teams like Detroit and Cleveland had gotten hot. It's a helluva gamble to make it August.

But if you don’t love these new White Sox for shipping out prospects for two-time Gold Glove-winner Brenton Doyle to post a .537 OPS in his first month with the team, you don’t deserve them being four games up in the loss column on the second-place Guardians with 19 left to play, thanks to a lineup powered by unheralded acquisitions, such as Miguel Vargas and Tristan Peters, turned into player-development breakthroughs.

Not sure arguing with the fans is the best approach for Fegan, but whatever. Doyle does not seem like a very good addition, same with castillo, getz has made a lot of great moves, but nobody is perfect.
