Yeah, if you are coming from the north, west, southwest or on the train with the electric line this is WAY better. Th8s location improves access for literally millions of people in the Chicago metro area.

It's a 10 minute extra drive for traditional driving from the direct south side, or a couple of extra train stops.

The Metra stop would be an absolute game changer on top of this. From everything I have read, they do intend on trying to get this done.

They can afford it and they will also be paying a very large sum in taxes to live there. Google says that it was $568,272 in tax bills in 2021.

Bridgeport has had decades to do something to make people stick around after games and spend money, and has utterly failed.

I know this will draw the ire of our resident rage-aholic and perhaps others who love the location, but having to drive to the park from the western suburbs can really suck sometimes. Oh, once I get to the park, parking is a breeze, but getting there? It can be a nightmare as traffic on 55 is perpetually shitty. 290 isn't any better. I drove to a Friday night game a few weeks ago and it took me something like 1 hour 45 minutes from western DuPage because traffic. Mass transit coming in on the Metra isn't great either because after the game, that means waiting on the red line platform for the next train, then at Jackson walking 20 minutes in the Loop to Union Station and hoping I didn't just miss the once-an-hour train by just a few minutes. If that happens, that means twiddling my thumbs at Union Station for close to an hour....that makes for a long commute home. I generally limit myself to Saturday and Sunday games because it's such a PITA to get to the ballpark on weeknights. But, to be successful, the Sox need to bring in fans more than just on Sat and Sun. Traffic still sucks on 55 on the weekends, especially on Saturdays, but at least it's tolerable.

The ballpark also has psychological barriers to the east (Ryan) and west (train viaduct) that make it seem like an island from the surrounding neighborhoods. Is there anything worth going to south of the park across from the southern most parking lot at Pershing? That really only leaves to the north where it feels connected to the surrounding neighborhood.

It also completely missed the point. Ishbia is invested HERE, and is doing big time work to make sure the Sox have an ideal home. Jerry lives in Arizona, and already almost moved the team once, settling for the cheapest possible stadium he could get. The dude owning a nine figure house here just tells me the odds of his leaving are way less than someone who isn't invested here. Hell if he was looking to go cheap for a quick buck, he could have taken the discount on Minnesota because of their debt, and looked to move them. But he didn't. Dude is undergoing a crazy Rube Goldberg of work with different federal and private agencies to get the Sox an idealistic long term home that will actually benefit the franchise going forward. If that is evil behavior, well horns up for me.

God forbid the Sox would become a big market team with revenue coming in from more than just a few sources. I'm not 100% sold on Ishbia but a guy willing to spend with a long term vision (rather than just threatening to move to Nashville) is a breath of fresh air.

It's interesting someone posted about "owning" everything. That is precisely the reason why JR didn't want anything outside of the park itself. He wanted all revenue streams to be coming from the park itself and going to him.

So I had been wondering for a while if Chicago would make a push for the Bears in Bridgeport. Not sure if this is where it is getting at and I'm not saying it would be option 1 - I doubt Bears ownership would get over it - but they have land, infastructure, etc - could they do something unique here.
