Glad you finally got to the pointIn a social context negative critical mass refers to the exact tipping point of (among other things) when someone or something reaches a specific amount of strain that triggers a rapid collapse. These terms were used often during the 1960’s. Ever hear of the University of Chicago?

If you want to lecture people about non baseball topics feel free to leave the game thread and go to reddit where you can circle jerk to your heart's delight.

10 hours ago10 hr It may or may not work tonight, but it cracks me up how WS Twitter freaks out whenever an opener is announced. It seems to have been a huge success so far.

He has a good open and a not so good open from what I can see, both against Cleveland. You can tell that the staff has decided that they are just trying to shorten the game around the actual starter

Will doesn't exactly have the 90s Braves staff to work with, He's trying to make chicken salad out of mostly chicken s%*#.
10 hours ago10 hr I think we have a better record using an opener vs. not using an opener, but not sure how to look it up without going through every game log.

9 hours ago9 hr Murphy as an opener is a shrug for me. Cleveland is very left-handed. Part of Davis's improvement this season is that he's gotten better at getting lefties out, but it's still a weakness for him — and we still aren't totally sure which version of Davis we're getting. Murphy has pitched fairly well this year and has great stuff. And, importantly, I don't care about not having him available later in the game. That's a big difference from when the Sox used Taylor, Newcomb, and to a lesser extent Hudson as an opener. Murphy may or may not pitch well as an opener today, but I think it's reasonable to see him as likelier to throw the inning(s) more effectively than Davis and that Davis wasn't likely to go deep regardless. So you've got:An unusually left-handed opponentA righty starter who you're unsure how much to trustA surplus lefty reliever Go ahead and use the opener then. I'll make a note that Murphy doesn't have much in the way of platoon splits this year or in the past which frankly doesn't make a ton of sense to me given his slider-heavy approach. But yeah, let's see how it goes.
9 hours ago9 hr We DFA'd Urquidy, nice. Getz seems fairly good at just moving on from failed end of rester guys, certainly compared to Hahn.
9 hours ago9 hr Murphy's last 5 appearances:5.1 innings, 1 earned runNot sure why murphy decision is bad.Davis struggles in 1st inningGo Sox!
