Taylor is not a closer. Why give him anything to hit with the count 0-2 and first base open ?

no s%*# he's not a closer, I've been telling people that all year, dude blows 50% of his save opportunities lmao

This loss was on Will. Starting Murphy instead of Davis and gifting 3 runs to the Guardians in the 1st inning.

  • I don’t think anyone is mad at him. Rather he shouldn’t have been put in that position.

If Doyle had not been pinch hit for by Braden, Peters could have been in left instead of Antonacci. The game ends on Rochios's at bat when Peters catches that ball. Doyle had 2 hits already and Braden

I wish they didn’t have to rely on openers to get to the actual starting pitcher. Or have bullpen games.

I didn’t like the route Sam took on that ball but the batter put it in the right spot. I also don’t always understand Venable pinch hitting like he has.

Seems like a must win game tomorrow, whoever is pitching. Maybe it is Thorpe.

Maybe Hagan should be the closer the rest of the way.

that pitch was high and away not close to the zone at 101

but it's not a spinning moving 101 just flat

I completely disagree. A 0-2 or 1-2 fastball up needs to be UP. Like top of the umps mask / top of the batters helmet.

Just like if he had broken off something with spin… it shouldn’t be at the bottom below the zone… it should be IN THE FUCKING DIRT.

We are 7-5 vs Cleveland and have lost 3 walkoffs and another in extras.

I see him as more of an Andrew Miller type with how he’s been used. But he could close.

He’s has some ups and downs. I’m not saying he’s going to win RoY. Dude’s a rookie and I’m not writing him off. I just wouldn’t be playing him rest of the way.

Outside of the first game, it’s been a lot of down unfortunately. I wanted him so badly to be good, but he’s not a major league hitter at this time.

Jay Cuda/AI could manage this team a lot better than Venable

Antonacci can't throw anyone out with his weak ass arm regardless of how shallow he plays

get the out

all that matters

loser's mentality thinking of cutting down winning run at home

already assumes failure

Rocchio already showed this year he can hit Taylor’s high fastball

Walk killed them

Horrible 0-2 pitch

He's also gotta catch that

But ultimately this game might've been lost in the 1st inning

Using Murphy as an opener vs Cleveland should get you fired lol

101 up and out of the zone at 0-2, idk how he hit that. Taylor got it up like they wanted, should have thrown a slider low and in

Antonacci almost blew a game last series at Cleveland on a similar play.

For those dogging on Sam - ridiculous. The game was on Will for putting his team behind the eight ball with his choices to start Murphy and require Grant to get a 6 out save… it’s also on Taylor himself for walking Bayley and giving Rochio a pitch that he could get his bat on when he had two strikes… and it’s on Mune for getting another sombrero.

No way. It was a GREAT pitch after those first two. Perfect sequence. It was up out of the zone.

Toy with him a little more on 0-2. But should have been a fly out regardless.

Send Murphy down and bring up Thorpe to pitch tomorrow.

It’s crazy to me that people think he could be a starter.

And I agree. If this year was anything like the last few years, it would be just fine getting him experience and letting him build on said experience. We’re, fortunately, in a position where we need results right now which is unfortunate for him. I’m not even sure I’d want him on a playoff roster right now.

Just play Grichuk the rest of the way.

Venable is atrocious! It’s a miracle they haven’t lost 100 games again this year.

It was not a good play by Sam but he's a 2B playing LF. The loss is not on him. Many things leading up to that play cost the Sox the game.

or maybe we shouldn't rely on our closer throwing 2 innings to close especially a young guy. Or maybe we should stop with the fucking openers and wasting our 2nd best bullpen arm in the 1st inning of games and then he isn't available the next game

Especially since it already backfired ONCE in spectacular fashion

Hudson #2 ahead of Newcomb

Just no reason to have your worst outfielder actually in the outfield when up 1
