Did the second bullet below ever happen? If not, I guess there is no buyout if the 2028 option actually vests. However, I would assume the Sox would just cut him next season before he reaches 180 innings pitched.

• 2026-2027:$22.75M annually, 2028:$25M vesting option

• 2028 conditional option: Seattle receives a $5M club option for 2028 if Castillo is on the Injured List in 2025-27 for more than 130 consecutive days due to Tommy John surgery or an operation stemming from damage to the ligament

• 2028 vesting option: if conditional option specifications are not met, the option is guaranteed at $25M if a) Castillo pitches at least 180 innings in 2027 and b) an independent surgeon determines Castillo does not have an injury causing him to start the 2028 season on the Injured List

Definitely. Seranthony has been pitching better with the Mariners than he did with the Sox.

Castillo will 100% be on the team next season unless something blows up in spring training. This guy was just a little bad a couple months ago so we'll see what he might or might not be able to do to straighten things out. Pitchers can have a lot more longevity than hitters but age isn't nice to anybody. He ain't that old though. I'm curious where Castillo is mentally and whether letting him get his ass whooped is going to be helpful or unhelpful on that front. When you're just running a 5.00 ERA there's a lot of room for finger pointing and what if's. Not as much when you're barely able to pitch a single scoreless inning.

He’s old in terms of bullets used. Lots of innings at a high velocity on his arm.
