He needs a complete re-do, the Sox must have a 2 week labor intensive period this winter to fix his stance and swing and his head too.

He is a 30- 40 homer guy with + defense, possibly an MVP type player, under full team control and isn't Arb Eligible until 2029. I think he is worth keeping around.

Last couple of months for Colson has basically been how he was hitting that resulted in the Arizona demotion.

I had this conversation with my buddies last night. To me the first domino on everything is Mune. If the Sox invest in Mune, first base is occupied for the foreseeable future, so then you move to Vargas. Are they investing in Vargas? Seems foolish not to, and at that point the corners are both covered, and that leaves Colson covering one position with 3 possible replacements coming up soon in Bonemer/Roch/Carlson. And at that point, he becomes trade bait unfortunately(imo)

I believe he is young enough that his hit tool can improve, but I also am really worried his back is going to alter his career, and who knows when that really starts.

I agree, I don’t want to give up on him yet but there’s work to be done with him. Obviously the opposing pitchers know what it takes to get him out, now it’s his turn to adjust.

If they think Chase can handle SS here and there, another infielder doesn’t necessarily have to play SS

He has had back problems this season, so he is probably playing a bit hurt (as are a lot of players at this time of the season). This is also his first full season in the majors; he's played twice as many games on the MLB team as last season. So, he will probably first need some rest after we're done this year.

I'm sure that they'll work with him during the offseason to make adjustments to his swing (as much as is allowed with the lockout). But the questions of durability will linger.

I suspect that he will get traded at some point.

Sadly I saw this coming a while ago. He has no future here.

you shouldn't trade a guy coming off a year where he struggled or showed huge red flags, they gotta try to fix him but idk how they do that with basically no off-season (coaches and players can't work together during a lockout afaik)

Remember when we did this for like 4 seasons with Luis Robert. Then settled for Acuna because he never stayed healthy

I wanted Robert traded when he had that monster year (2023), the team was obviously bad and not gonna amount to anything but Getz held onto him and it blew up spectacularly.

I don't agree with the sentiment that if Getz had traded him, he would've been destroyed by the fan base. some criticism sure, but dude would've been hurt in just a couple months on his new team anyways most likely

Colson is definitely not a set it and forget guy in the batter's box. He needs to be looked at very closely by the batting coach to keep him synced.

I agree with you, also what is Colson costing the team in payroll? It makes no sense to trade Colson unless Getz gets an offer he can't turn down.

You don't give up yet on a 24 yr old who has the potential to be a 40 HR guy. Does he have to show improvement next year as far as making more consistent contact at the plate, of course. He knows that better than anyone. He will have to get things figured out this off season. If he is the same guy at the plate next year then you probably have a decision to make come the trading deadline.

This is where I'm at, too. Last year and the first half of this year are tantalizing, and I am not so sure that this is Colson's final form. Plenty of great players K a lot, if he can be like a mini-Schwarber with + defense and avoid the prolonged slumps like the 2nd half of this season, that's a damn good ballplayer.

is he a 40HR guy because he sells out his whole offensive profile just to crank bombs? because if you look at his stats, that's exactly what it appears to be. I'm sure a lot of players could hit 35-40 bombs a year if they just swung really hard on almost every pitch, but they would also likely set the strikeout record and have a sub .700 OPS to go with it

I had kind of forgotten about this to be honest. He missed a little bit of time at that point. I wonder if this has been bothering him, or he's just out of sorts. Again, I harken back to last year when they had to deplatform him to Arizona to rebuild him and wonder if we are talking mechanics or health, as when he became unplayable last year, no one ever really said what happened.

And I agree, trade early. Dont hold on to Colson too long if you are moving on, and all the SS’s in the organization make me think they will be moving on

The power is real, the defense is real. I think he definitely would be desired even with the Ks. To me it’s just a numbers game on this team. And also, this organization favors trading for better players over paying them on the open market, so I could definitely see him packaged this offseason for pitching.

The timing would have needed to have been pre-massive slump. As of now, you are going to be paying the suck tax for what he has done in the second half, but especially concerning is the almost straight line drop in his production as the season has gone on. The contact has dropped, the walk rates have dropped, the power has dropped, and his K rate is basically record breaking.
