Schriffen: "It's been an amazing three years". Implies that them calling Sox games together is over. Could Stone be on his way out?

  • If Schiff is gone, I'm never standing up again.

  • I can’t believe there are people that think McKnight is good. I get not liking Schriffen, but McKnight has just as many warts.

  • I actually think a "cookie cutter" PBP guy would be an upgrade over a non-baseball guy like Schriff at least

By the way the MLB broadcaster who the Sox first offered the job to but was turned down over money was Will Fleming, the Red Sox radio broadcaster.

I’m sure it was the best deal though

Get ready for Connor McKnight with JR and his lowball offers. I have listened to Fleming and is just Meh. He wouldn't bring much excitement

He's like the camel on the commercial. Steve, Steve, Steve, Steve, Steve, guess what the count is?

White Sox Announcer John Schriffen’s Status With Team Unc...

With his contract set to expire following the 2026 season, White Sox announce John Schriffen’s status with the team is uncertain.

I would never gloat over someone losing their job.

I feel bad for him...but he was not good at his job and it was obvious to most. So I am happy it appears we may have a new PXP guy in our future.

What about someone that was over promoted and will be just fine financially? John got a chance many better announcers never will and he blew it in various ways.

Did I say he deserves to keep his job? That doesn't mean gloating.

Who is gloating?

I thought Schriffen improved in his 3 years, he was really bad in his first year but by the end of 2026 I thought he was pretty good and should have been extended and would probably improve even more, I liked his exuberance and felt liked he really cared about the Sox unlike Benetti who grew up a Sox fan but I never felt like he cared that much about the team.

Right, because you weren't just out here campaigning for Colson Montgomery to lose his. GMAB.

Well luckily no one gloated about it, so you don't have to fake moral superiority.

Oh there’s definitely a list worth gloating over (but Schriffen ain’t on it).

Did he improve? Sure. Do you get the impression he likes the Sox? Yea. Did he deserve another year? No. Even with his improvement he still was bad and I get the impression Stone would have retired rather than work with him again full time. Kinda just is what it is. He's been gainfully employed with his travel expenses all comped for three seasons while taking most of the offseason off from other gigs.

He'll be OK and we'll hopefully find someone better.

It’s been a beautiful week without him. Is that a gloating moment or…..

He shamed us. He doubled down on his schtick. He knew we didn’t like it. Did it anyway. Sayonara. (I am Japanese!)

I don't understand most of the negative opinions about Schriffen. For example, he asked Stone if a hitter should be given the green light on 3-O. What was he supposed to do? Say nothing? OK. After he was criticized for that on-line, he stopped doing it, and that in itself became awkward - catering to the whims of internet sports forum warriors. Then the criticism about not gauging the distance of deep fly balls. Actually he was far better at that then Benetti. Then the "South side, stand up" OK, it was wonky but honestly, I admired the deference to the South side and it took balls to do that. Schriffen walked through the parking lot pregame to interact with Sox fans who were tailgating. Anyone have issues with that? Now, he made mistakes that some found unacceptabl. Others just do not like him personally or hate him for whatever their reasons.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Mine is that I don't think that he committed a firing offense (including his reference to Samurai swords) but if the majority of posters on this forum dislike him, then he probably should not be signed to an extension. After all, this place is the authority on all matters White Sox and management should defer. I demur.

We have access to more information than ever. With AI, even mediocre minds can research things never before possible. And yet, John never understood WHY you'd give a 3-0 green light (or the opposite), even after asking Stone probably a dozen times over the seasons.

This coming from a guy that claimed he was goin to play D1 baseball until he blew his arm out. I mean, he's a fraud. He might be a pretty nice guy, but as a baseball guy and announcer he's a fraud.

The 3-0 thing is so overblown. Heard Brian Anderson on Brewers broadcasts ask that all the time. Benetti used to ask Stone about 20 questions an inning when they broadcasted together.
