I would prioritize signing Michael King and rekindle trade talks for Reid Detmers.

Getz will still be hyping Castillo as being in the best shape of his lifetime coming into ST.

I am going to be honest here, 2005 to 2006 is in the back of my head, where we rode our top dogs hard, and then they fell off the next year for the most part. If it were me, I am 100% looking for big

  • People, for some reason, think what the Sox did towards the end of the year was this brand new strategy they will do forever instead of something they had to do because of current personal.

I know there is no perfect free agent pitcher this year sans Skubal, but is anyone concerned that King's K rate dropped quite a bit this past year? All his expected and fielding independent numbers point to him being a 4+ ERA pitcher the past 2 seasons, almost a full run higher than his ERA during this time. When you're paying for a pitcher, you're paying him for what he might produce, not what he's produced before. None of his underlying metrics suggest that he will continue to be the low 3 ERA pitcher he's been. I doubt Jerry will pony up the $120+ million he might get over 5 years anyway, but just food for thought.

Been beating the King drum for a while. Not a lot of innings on that arm either. And 31 so not like he’s going to sign a crazy like 7+ year deal. Also was previously offered QO so can’t be offered again.

I know I'm a broken record, but the Sox simply don't draft and develop near well enough to regenerate the young players that will be required for these pitchers like Detmers. I could see it if there were 4 years of control, but. not 2.

Start spending money in free agency instead of constantly dumping the young talent in the system for other teams to benefit. For once, let the Sox draft talent, and let the Sox put it on the field instead of shipping it out. If there’s extra laying around, different story. Why are we always trying to do this? Be NORMAL!

I just can’t imagine how much Detmers will cost now. Angels played that perfectly. Bonemer plus for him would be the cost.

The Angels wanted Bonemer at the deadline and that was a non-starter. I think it might be a new GM in Anaheim though.

Reid Detmers for one of Montgomery's. Who says no?

I'd probably include Braden Montgomery

I don’t think they plan to. I think Taylor remains their closer for the foreseeable future. I also think Hagen gets at least one more year in the bullpen before they decide his fate.

I know that Taylor and his representatives want the opportunity to start. I don't know how long it'll be harmonious if this is the role.

If Castillo does have an impingement shoulder it explains he gutted out his first home start on adrenaline. His 7 inning, 1hit,10k against the Reds was a quality start. If he can come to spring healthy, I would like to see what he can do. Were stuck with him either way.

Whats crazy is if we did just do that trade? And look Bonemer the player and the control could be worth an exceptional amount. Nobody knows truly how he will pan out. However, What we do know is Deitmers had a monster season. And very likely its the White Sox winning the division and playing in the ALCS if you do that trade.

I don't know if its the right move. But I think its fair to ponder given the incredible need for a front line starter and how close the White Sox were, would it have been better to make that move.

1.50 and 2.40 era's the last two months of the season...doubt JR would have approved adding more expensive arbitration guy and taking away a 6-7 year potentially cost controlled young hitting star

In that context it becomes worth asking if Bonmer would be worth a trip to the ALCS or WS.

For now, what happens when they start playing again is anybody's guess.

My guess is that even Getz will draw the line at throwing him out there and getting hammered game after game after game.

Holy hell, I didn't know that was his injury. When I had that happen to me in college, it was like I lost all strength in my arm.

What kind of contract do you think it would take to get Shota to the South Side?

Not the sexiest of signings and he clearly shouldn’t be viewed as an ace that will take us over top, but would be a nice stabilizing presence in the middle of the rotation.

(Yes, the HR’s are scary)

Trade for TOR arm (Schultz + Carlson headline)

Burke

Shota

Castillo

Thorpe/Martin/Sandlin

Selling low on both Schultz and Carlson?

That's not how you leverage 2 of your remaining top five assets after Miguel Vargas.

Why not just spend $$$$?

Selling low = netting a top of the rotation arm?

Edit: I don't think you get that great of an arm dealing both right now personally. If you could get a TOR with 3+ years of control, do it.

Yes, My answer is yes. I think if you always took surplus value to surplus value- I think prospects will win out in most trades. I think trading is always optimizing windows for a team like the White Sox.

However, Right Handed power is the most valuable asset in baseball. Bonemer could be monster. Maybe he leads up to 2-3 world series appearances over the next decade.

I like to compare this years White Sox to last years Bears. I had little expectation going in but it was exceeded and the final outcome however disappointing was a great ride. Additionally, My expectations for next year have increased. I want a division title and at least a trip to the ALCS.

This is the (5 yr) $75 million dollar question.

Has this been reported anywhere or are people speculating?

Yeah if he was hurt, it at least explains why he was throwing up meatballs and gives me hope that if he can get healthy, he can improve.

Still don't really like the move though.

His velocity decreased quite a bit and he dropped his arm angle. I don't know if the injury was causing that or if they were tinkering and he got injured along the way.

I think Getz mentioned something along these lines with his season ending press conference.
