Croc Hunter Steve Irwin Dies

Featured Replies

THE Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, is dead.

He was killed in a freak accident in Cairns, police sources said.

It is understood he was killed by a stingray barb that went through his chest.

He was swimming off the Low Isles at Port Douglas filming an underwater documentary and that's when it occured.

Ambulance officers confirmed they attended a reef fatality this morning at Batt Reef off Port Douglas.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

It was bound to happen though with all the crazy stuff he does.

RIP Steve.

Damn, you knew it would happen but I kind of expected it to be with him doing something a little dumber than just swimming with sting rays (among other fish).

OH CROIKEE, THAT ONE IS REALLY BIG

RIP Steve. It was gonna happen eventually. Thanks for making us laugh and wonder what the hell you're thinking for years

RIP Steve

This is nuts, RIP Steve

Wow, messed up.

RIP

I don't know why but this really shocked me when I read it, you figure it would happen eventually but when it finally does it's just hard to believe.

Unbelievable. RIP Steve, this came out of nowhere.

wow... I didnt even realize that Stingrays were that deadly. I always thought at some point of his life one of them crocodiles would be the end of him not a stingray...

[NUKE_CLEVELAND]How Ironic! [/NUKE_CLEVELAND]

Up until now I was unfamilar with a Stingray's barb. According to an article I recently browsed on Google, it's as "deadly as a rifle bayonet driven into (someones) organs."

He may not have been as crazy as Timothy Treadwell, but regardless, both certaintly underestimated the violent nature of their work.

Ah yes I do remember that.

He will certainly be missed.

Apparently the barb went right into his heart, so you knew that he had to be dead right then. Atleast he died doing what he loved to do.

Choking back tears, Mr Stainton said Irwin had gone “over the top of a stingray and a stingray's barb went up and went into his chest and put a hole into his heart”.

"He possibly died instantly when the barb hit him, and I don't think that he ... felt any pain.”

This shocked me when I read it.

RIP Steve!

Very shocking. RIP.

I read this messageboard first thing this morning, and saw this thread and couldnt help but believe it was somewhat of a hoax, because it wouldnt be the first time this guy was claimed killed by a snake/crocodile/dingo pack/kangaroo/etc. Its hard to believe that he died swimming with Stingrays rather than feeding his 15 foot saltwater crocodiles at his zoo.

RIP steve, you always made us all watch and laugh.

I can't believe it. :pray to his family

^^

RIP Steve

RIP That really sucks.

Did he try to stick his thumb up the stingray's butt? /south.park.

Absolute shame... I enjoyed his show and his dedication to animals and trying to teach people about them as well.. RIP and best wishes to his wife and kids....
