Balta1701 Posted March 3, 2008 Share Posted March 3, 2008 The White Sox sent a scout to Scottsdale to watch San Francisco left-hander Noah Lowry pitch against Texas. The scout didn't see much to get excited about, according to a witness. Lowry walked seven and heaved two wild pitches in the first inning. In the second, Lowry walked the first two batters on nine pitches, then threw a pickoff attempt into the stands before Giants manager Bruce Bochy pulled him. Lowry didn't strike out any of the 12 batters he faced. Lowry is signed through 2009 at about $6.75 million, but the Sox might be better served settling for a package of prospects including left-hander Jonathan Sanchez in any deal involving third baseman Joe Crede. If they did target someone like a ML pitcher...albeit Lowry seems no longer to be an option...one thing that could always be done is to spin that pitcher off to the national league, where there are probably 10 teams who could use a guy who will do nothing other than give them an ERA of 5 over 175 innings. Balta1701 Posted March 5, 2008 Share Posted March 5, 2008 Giants pitcher Noah Lowry was diagnosed with tendinitis in his left wrist and sent back to San Francisco to see a hand specialist. "It's frustrating," Lowry said, who is expected to miss at least three days. "You go out there and you want to compete at the level that you know you're capable of competing at and sometimes your body doesn't allow you to do that. At this level you have to be right physically. Right now it's not." After consulting with manager Bruce Bochy and team trainers, Lowry met with Dr. Gary Waslewski on Tuesday in Scottsdale. A series of tests revealed the injury. Later in the afternoon Lowry boarded a plane for the Bay Area and was scheduled to meet with Dr. Gordon Brody, the Giants' hand specialist. He is expected to return to Arizona on Wednesday. Lowry will take anti-inflammatories and wear a splint on his left thumb for the next few days. ptatc Posted March 5, 2008 Share Posted March 5, 2008 If the splint is for his thumb then he probably has an injury called De Quervain's syndrome. It is a tenosynovitis related to tendons that bring your hand toward your thumb side and lift your thumb up. This happens in pitcher's from decelerating your wrist if you snap your wrist too much during your breaking pitches. Rest and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory meds are the best way to treat it.
