A 4.5 era is all this team needs from their #5 starter.

Every team should be so lucky... a 4.50 ERA in the Cell is better than league average

Wow

Floyd (2-0) had never pitched more than seven innings in the majors.

A 4.50 ERA is not as bad as it looks either..

I will gladly take 6 ip and 3 er from our 3-4-5 every single outing.. our bullpen and our offense has looked good enough for that to be all the pitching we need from them

Wow

How many times have managers given him the chance? Ozzie had the quick hook on him last year, and the hook on him in Philly was even faster. And he's something of a strikeout/fly ball pitcher, so he does go deep in counts.

But anyway...GO GAVIN GO!

Hahahaha. Urge to go to positive thread and brag...

This is really great to see considering I thought they played at 7 tonight. Nice little surprise.

Yep. Park adjusted league average at Comiskey since 2000 is 4.64.

Well floyd only plays theoretically half of his games at home.

He seems to do pretty well at Comerica also.

It also means he is improving, which is great to see.

Awesome game.. Floyd once again dominates Detroit! Im going to hold judgement on him until he shows us that he can pitch vs other teams starting with Baltamore next week. Lets take the rubber match tommorow!

If Gavin can pitch with confidence and success against the Tigers I am thinking he can do good against the others too. That was a nice game and good defense by Crede and Quentin helped.

did anyone catch gavin's post-game interview

"the last two years I felt like I was pitching in someone else's body"

interesting.

Even as this season goes on, the similiarities to Jon Garland continue for Gavin Floyd. You can just feel his confidence growing starting in August of last year. I think the Sox are on to something here, hopefully they are right, because he would be a huge find if he turns out to be a solid pitcher.

I know it doesn't count for that much...but I also come back to the fact that Jon Garland, while a nice find, only as a prospect topped out at #32 on the ol' BA list. Floyd on the other hand was as high as #9. He's a reclamation project, but he's a reclamation project starting off with some serious talent a couple years back.

These comparisons of Jon Garland and Gavin Floyd are just not accurate. Floyd and Garland were both top picks but thats where it ends. Garland lit up the minors quickly and came up to the majors and was a serviceable big league starter (ie while early on he didn't live up to the hype he was at least a league average starter for the vast majority of his career) all at a very young age. Hell, Garland is just a couple years older than Floyd and he's already had 6 straight 190+ inning seasons and won 93 games (more than he's lost) and posted an ERA+ of 105 (ie, just above league average).

I watched some highlights from ESPN, Floyd's curveball was sick.

For the record, that was an article by the Associated Press which will be picked up and published by various media venues all over the country. It has nothing to do with ESPN.

AP articles are written in a hurry, then re-written a few times before you see the final version. So the first version you see might be a simple paragraph, the last version is a full-blown article.

Yeah, the one you saw is probably the one to Cabrera that was just filthy.

The good thing about Floyd's curveball was that when he missed with it he missed so badly (high and inside) that the hitters couldn't do anything with it.

If he can continue to throw that pitch for a strike, along with that nasty changeup he seemed to be featuring today, he's going to be extremely difficult to hit.

Mr. Floyd just pwns Detroit. I wish I could believe he's 'turned the corner.' Unfortunately, I'll need another 5-6 quality/dominant starts before I believe he's the real deal. But he's off to a VERY good start this season.
