Faceoffs are a big thing to think about. If we are winning 45% of our draws in the playoffs, it is going to make it really tough to win a series against a team like DET or SJ.

True. They'll be hard enough to beat anyway, you can't give them that much puck possession.

Isn't Toews the only center with a winning faceoff % on the team (with significant numbers of faceoffs, I mean - if someone is 7 of 11 I don't care)?

Yup. And no one else is particularly close

Looking at the league-wide faceoff % stats paints an even clearer picture of how much help the Hawks need..

Out of 87 qualifiers, Toews is ranked #24, which is decent

But the other 3 guys, Fraser, Sharp, & Bolland are all ranked betwwen #72 & 84, easily in the bottom 20%...not good

The Hawks are near the bottom in overall faceoff percentage wins and the penalty kill hasn't been very effective the last month and a half. The Hawks will need to create cap space to try and solve both these problem areas. I still think the Hawks have a shot at Dominic Moore of Toronto.

Quick note -- Moore was held out of last nights game... definitely a signal of a pending trade somewhere.

Also, espn says that hawks are interested in Mark Recchi -- hes a UFA at the end of the year but would be a nice Gary Roberts type pick up for a playoff run.

I really like the move. I can't imagine we gave up too much -- Moore rejected an extension offered by TOR and was going to walk after the season. I'm actually glad he is going to be a UFA, because he's having a career year (contract year) and you'd hate to have a guy turn back into a pumpkin and clog up your cap.

Nice move Dale.

Nothing on Rotoworld ATM saying the Hawks picked up anyone.

The Rangers got Derek Morris and Nic Antropov, while the Flames got Olli Jokinen from the Coyotes for Lombardi plus a pick and a prospect.

from nhl.com...

Also, Sportsnet.ca is saying Samuel Pahlsson has been moved to the Chicago Blackhawks, who were desperate for another center.

According to the Score it's Wiz and a prospect headed the other way.
