July 23, 201114 yr QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 02:25 PM) I feel the same way. Total class. He's had a nice season. The lesson is: If you are not the best player in the world, don't make an error or two that costs the Sox a game in April or you'll be hated on the rest of your Sox career no matter how you turn your season around. Even though the Sox have dropped so many games in so many variety of ways with just about every position player on the team a huge goat at some point.
July 23, 201114 yr QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 08:23 AM) I really respect Juan. Not only has he hit a heck of a lot better, making himself a serviceable MLB player than last month, but he is a classy dude. He has been very classy here, unfortunately has been the definition of suck and below average for most of his time with us. I don't blame him, he just is a speed guy who is 34 yrs old. I blame the infatuation that Ozzie has with him.

Even though the Sox have dropped so many games in so many variety of ways with just about every position player on the team a huge goat at some point. No player is perfect nor is any fan. Fans tend to be very reactionary, especially when you expect your team to be competing for a division title and they are in 3-4th place. I would not judge a fan based on a few comments made after one play or even after one loss, just like I would not judge a player after that play or game.

The lesson is that when you're the second worst everyday player at your position you're not going to garner much praise. Other than that, yeah, Juan appears to be a good guy. July 23, 201114 yr Rosenthal predicting the Sox will be sellers, CQ will be the most coveted RH hitter on the market and Jackson will fetch a prize, with no impact to the lineup since Viciedo is ready and we already have a 6 man rotation. In other words, we remain contenders but also bolster the minor ranks (I assume).

July 23, 201114 yr QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 05:05 PM) If Edwin throws another gem before the break he will be in serious demand. We're mincing words here. Jackson ought to bring back a higher value than a type B draft pick. This is a AAA/major league level player with some talent or a lower level player with a higher talent level. We're not going to get 2 major league caliber starting pitchers for him, but one average player should be plausible.

July 23, 201114 yr QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 04:37 PM) 88-74 good enough to win the central? Yes, and it could be much less if the Sox and Twins take care of the Tigers and Indians. If I had to put a number on it right now, I think 86 wins gets it done.
July 23, 201114 yr QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 05:42 PM) Yes, and it could be much less if the Sox and Twins take care of the Tigers and Indians. If I had to put a number on it right now, I think 86 wins gets it done. Someone from this division is going to make a move at the deadline to push to 88. They're so bunched together at the top that a moderate sized move could be the difference easily.
July 23, 201114 yr http://twitter.com/#!/nickcafardo/stat...879415992983552 Red Sox scouting Jackson and Quentin. That would be interesting to see a trade while the White Sox are playing them.

I'm thinking more about one game better than 2nd place, not the ultimate win total of the 1st place team.

That would be interesting to see a trade while the White Sox are playing them. God, I'd hate to see both of them go to the Red Sox. It sure would be interesting to see a trade while they're playing each other - never seen two impact players traded and then play against their former team the next day.
July 23, 201114 yr QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 04:54 PM) can't believe theo's making a run at Beltran. #bostonyankees Drew has been god awful. Add Beltran to that lineup and it's curtains. Must be nice to have a productive farm system.
July 23, 201114 yr QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 04:41 PM) yeah, we'll see. remember, asdrubal cabrera for eduardo perez. Jackson is a little over two months away from free agency. And he's league-average to begin with. Nobody is raping their farm for him.
July 23, 201114 yr QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 05:29 PM) Drew has been god awful. Add Beltran to that lineup and it's curtains. Must be nice to have a productive farm system. They're an incredible organization; they're probably the best team in baseball, I know they have they best offense and pretty much all of their most productive players this season are either homegrown or were acquired by trading away some of the better prospects in baseball: Gonzalez, Pedroia, Youkilis, Ellsbury, Beckett, Lester, Buccholz, Papelbon and Bard. To acquire Gonzalez and Beckett they traded way the #10, #35, #40 and #75 prospects in baseball. Ortiz, Wakefield, Aceves and Albers were all scrapheap pickups.
July 23, 201114 yr QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 05:31 PM) Jackson is a little over two months away from free agency. And he's league-average to begin with. Nobody is raping their farm for him. Except for the fact that pitching always costs a ton at the deadline and be may be the best pitcher on the market. I don't care if he's a league average pither, this is a supply and demand issue, and that's what will dictate his price. The fact that whoever trades for him also gets a supplemental pick will only help our cause. We should be able to get something of value for him. Not Hudson/Holmberg valuable, but perhaps a nice prospect that could help us in a year or two. Why do you think otherwise?

July 24, 201114 yr Looks like we'll miss Beckett next weekend as long as Boston doesn't have any rainouts.

They're the blueprint on how to run a year-in and year-out successful organization. Other than the Lackey signing, I can't think of a single bad move they've made in the last 7 or 8 years. Well, I guess you can throw Jenks in there. He's bad. Ha! Forgot about Dice K. They're not perfect, obviously. But they do so much right that it negates when they make a mistake.
