I know I am going to get flamed for this, but I think Oz should put him back into the 3 hole NOW. The argument of "taking the pressure off him" doesn't hold any water, BTW, as he's hit here before. April 2, 201114 yr There is an old saying that has to do with soccer that goes: you don't change a winning team. Leave the lineup as it is, as long as it's succesfull, also tranlsaltes to, if it ain't broke, dont fix it.

April 2, 201114 yr I'm a Quentin guy and think he'll have a good year, but reality is its only one game. We were very excited about the Sox after one game last year and then the wheels fell off for a while. Hopefully, they won't fall off this year. I think they can make a mockery of this division.
April 2, 201114 yr Last time i did an outing centered around white sox baseball was in a spring trainning trip to see them for a week in 2005. We all know what happened then. In 1 week - I'll be in Chicago with hi8is Sr. for the first 2 series at the cell. Logically speaking - this must mean that we'll win the series again this year. Delusions of grandeur? Me? No? Scarasm? Wit?? Yes!

I predicted he'll be hitting 3rd in the game thread before the game he had and still believe it. But lets wait till mid season to see if he's "08 back." Right now though, I want him and Rios flip flopped in the order, but that's another topic.
April 2, 201114 yr TCQ is at his best thinking up the middle and the other way. If he sticks with that and stays healthy, he will have a big year.
April 2, 201114 yr I'm ok with him being in a spot in the order for him to drive Dunn, Konerko and Rios in when they get on. I think this lineup is more dangerous with Quentin right where he is at.
April 2, 201114 yr Like people have said, it's a bit too early to consider this. One thing I can say for sure, though, is that Quentin is the wildcard in this lineup. The offense will be pretty damn good regardless of what he does, but it will be elite if he has a good year. I feel like the only real disappointment offensively this year will be AJ. He's probably going to be the guy killing rallies regularly this season and overall just being the one that gives everybody that sinking feeling when he's coming to the plate.
April 2, 201114 yr As I've said before, the 2008 version of Carlos Quentin is the only legit number three hitter on the team. If the 2011 version of CQ is closer to the '08 version than the '09 or '10 version, I would hope Ozzie would bat him third. Dunn is more of a fourth or fifth place hitter anyway.
April 2, 201114 yr You know what I just realized about Q's game yesterday? He not only was hitting the ball hard...he was doing so against a LHP and on the road. Lately, he's been only really good against RHP and at home.

April 2, 201114 yr Leave Carlos right where he is. All it would take is a 2/12 stretch over the next few games and we wouldn't be talking about this. I want to see a good month of TCQ and not the WTFCQ before any lineup changes are made. Adam Dunn is attractive.

Remember Joe Crede batting 8th for us in 2005, that is the balance I'm talking about

April 3, 201114 yr I think that this discussion should really begin with the question of where Dunn should hit. Once that issue is decided, the other pieces fall into place fairly easily. As I stated in another thread; Batting Dunn third diminishes the value that his left handed bat was intended to provide. He was acquired to fill the void of a left handed bat to break up the right handed heavy lineup. If Dunn bats third, you still have Konerko, Quentin, Rios, and maybe even Ramirez, hitting consecutively, and they're all right handed. Moving Dunn to clean up resolves that issue. Then the only qestion is who is better suited to bat 3rd? Rios is not even close to a prototypical number three hitter. He has never produced the kind of power numbers that are expected from that spot in the order. If he were the only power hitter on the team, perhaps it could be justified, but on this team it makes no sense. Moreover, I still like the idea of having a "second leadoff" hitter heading up the bottom half of the order. Rios would be perfect as a 6th hitter. He could still drive in the good hitters in front of him, and if he leads off, he is a threat to steal. That makes Quentin the default candidate for the third spot in the lineup, and if he hits anywhere near his 2008 performance, that is precisely where he belongs. A healthy, productive Carlos Quentin fits the bill of a number three hitter to the "T". To me the right, left, right combo of Quentin, Dunn and Konerko is the obvious choice. To answer those who say; "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", we should remember that they've only played two games, and the results are likely not the result of the batting order. When a team puts on that kind of dominant offensive demonstration, it's likely more the consequence of ineffective pitching. Edited April 3, 201114 yr by Lillian
