I don't believe I sugested Oz was going to die poor, but do you really think Ozzie has enough to watch $8,000,000.00 slip away? You can always live a little better. An even bigger boat, an even bigger house, bigger diamonds for the wife and girlfriend, even longer and more lavish vacations. I just watched a special about a ship that rents for $500,000 per week. Think a guy with a couple million in the bank will lease it for a month and cruise the Med Sea? How about a guy with $10 mil in the bank? If no one desired a house more expensive than a milliom bucks, then no one would build $5 mil homes.

 

Think about this, didn't Jordan make enough playing basketball? Why did he endorse products? I've read very few people that say they have enough money and don't want any more.

I have to agree with Chisoxfn... Dunn was neither Kenny nor Ozzie's fault, no one saw this coming for him. Peavy had one injury, and ankle injury unrelated to pitching, so I don't fault him for that either. Swisher was questionable defensively, that's on Kenny but not a big deal. Kenny's biggest misses were Rios and the Hudson trade, he outright blundered those.

Funny how Ozzie had to have that option exercised, it gets exercised and he doesn't honor it, and HE pops off about loyalty. Maybe he should re think that. If JR doesn't let him out of his contract, its very debatable whether he ever gets offered what he signed for ever again.

About a month ago there was an article on MSN about celebrities who went broke. One of them was Willie Nelson. It's very easy for us who are not millionaires to be very judgmental with someone's money.

 

It's easy cause its f***ing stupid. I don't feel bad for 1 second if a person who's made millions lost it all because of their own stupidity. Living within your means applies to those making 35k or 3.5mil

Really, you would seek sympathy if you blew a $3.5 million salary?? I understand some people don't have the best education in how to invest and spend the money, but it should be common sense to anybody that you have X amount of money, therefore you can only spend X amount of money before it's gone.

 

$3.5 million is a lot of money, it would take multiple screwups before that person was in really deep s***, and they should've learned their lesson by then.

Short sighted? You mean that it's not common sense to give a stranger millions of dollars when he promises a 20% return every year? These guys of course will have tons of people coming to them with investment opportunities, but if they were smart or had common sense they would follow the herd and put their money in say, I dunno, what investment professionals put money in, aka mutual funds, ETFs, stocks, bonds, etc.

 

If you say that's not common sense than I disagree, when you train as a kid for a sport who do you look up to? Professional athletes. When you want to invest your money who do you look up to? Legitimate professional investment companies.

 

And if they were smart they would diversify, or atleast have a savings account, so if the economy flopped or something they would have atleast enough to live off of.

If you make $2 million a year like Ozzie was making, you can live a pretty comforable life without going broke. There are no excuses for any of these athletes who have gone broke other than total stupidity. Steve Stone was on television the other day and he said about Ozzie and money was this, "if bringing home $2 million a year isn't enough for your wife to go shopping, its time to find a new wife".

Guys making minimum wage think if I was just making $25,000 a year, I'd be happy. Guy making $25,000 wishes he was making $50,000. It just keeps going up from there. Some people are happy just to be able to give their kids a 10 year old Toyota to drive, but wish they could give them something a little nicer. When you are making $2 mil its remarkably easy to spend it and want to have $3 million.

Not millions but it happens in sales all the time for the top producers. And IMHO, wise management allows for this and doesn't adjust the pay structure.

And he has the opportunity to earn the money to acquire it. I'm not suggesting he is spending it all, but how much of it should he spend? $50,000? People live comfortably on that and he'd have enough to live on for 30 or 40 years.
