August 9, 201312 yr QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 11:38 AM) He always was. I heard an interview with Robin, he doesn't know what is going on with Rios' situation and doesn't want to know unless he is being moved. It would be interesting to see where Garcia was at the moment. That would be the indication about what was going to happen. Viciedo has been scratched in favor of Danks though. All the beat writers said they'd know what happened prior to Game 1. Strange.
August 9, 201312 yr Viciedo scratched, Danks to play CF. First time both Danks brothers are in the starting lineup together.
August 9, 201312 yr QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 11:42 AM) Viciedo has been scratched in favor of Danks though. All the beat writers said they'd know what happened prior to Game 1. Strange. He either showed up late, is sick or hurt.
August 9, 201312 yr QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 04:44 PM) He either showed up late, is sick or hurt. I'm sure his thumb is still bugging him.
August 9, 201312 yr QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 11:50 AM) I'm sure his thumb is still bugging him. I'm glad he was scratched. I hate Viciedo hitting 8th. He wasn't going to see any pitches with Flowers behind him.
August 9, 201312 yr I'm glad he was scratched. I hate Viciedo hitting 8th. He wasn't going to see any pitches with Flowers behind him. Viciedo probably wasn't going to be batting 8th. Order probably got rearranged when Danks was put in there.
August 9, 201312 yr QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 11:53 AM) I'm glad he was scratched. I hate Viciedo hitting 8th. He wasn't going to see any pitches with Flowers behind him. Judging by the Twins starters today, I think everybody is going to get a lot of pitches to hit.
August 9, 201312 yr QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 11:56 AM) Viciedo probably wasn't going to be batting 8th. Order probably got rearranged when Danks was put in there. The lineup that I saw earlier had Viciedo in the 8th spot. Scott Merkin @scottmerkin 24m CWS Game 1 pic.twitter.com/NpmpD45WKR View photo
August 9, 201312 yr QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 05:27 PM) If he trades him over the winter instead of just letting him go, the Sox will have paid $4 million for the prospect or prospects they receive. I hope they actually have a shot of being successful in the big leagues. It doesn't seem as if management is all that concerned over that aspect of it or they would have given him away already.
August 9, 201312 yr There is absolutely no source with this, but: https://twitter.com/ddallaire_25/status/365881705472602115 The #Rangers pick up alAlex Rrios from the #WhiteSox
August 9, 201312 yr QUOTE (Butter Parque @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 12:08 PM) It doesn't seem as if management is all that concerned over that aspect of it or they would have given him away already. Why wouldn't they wait until the clock struck zero to see what they could get?
August 9, 201312 yr QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 12:21 PM) The Sox arent going to get much for Rios, just my opinion. So you're saying they will get something...hmmmmm.

August 9, 201312 yr QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 08:09 AM) I'm just assuming he stays. I understand why they don't just want to give him away, but if they did just shed the payroll, it wouldn't bother me. I know that's not the popular opinion, or necessarily the right thing, but I wouldn't care if they just let him go to get the money off the books and get Garcia in the lineup. It may not be the popular opinion here at Soxtalk but if you read through the lengthy comment section here http://www.southsidesox.com/2013/8/9/46047...er-trade-rumors it seems the consensus is the salary dump is the way to go.
August 9, 201312 yr There is no pressure to dump salary. We have enough money to buy players if we want them. What we don't have is talent and our money can't buy that. Our players can buy that, though

August 9, 201312 yr QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 10:31 AM) There is no pressure to dump salary. We have enough money to buy players if we want them. What we don't have is talent and our money can't buy that. Our players can buy that, though As alluded to several times over the past few months, there are not many good players to buy.
August 9, 201312 yr QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 12:31 PM) There is no pressure to dump salary. We have enough money to buy players if we want them. What we don't have is talent and our money can't buy that. Our players can buy that, though While there's no pressure to dump salary, there's the very real fact that dumping salary allows you to have a wider array of options in the future. The next time a big overspender needs to come back to earth and move a still-decent piece, we're going to be there waiting. Maybe not now but whenever that point will be when we're ready to go for it again And it depends on how much we've dumped and how much we've held back on dumping.
