You know were dying for a legitimate rumor when tendering a contract to Tyler Flowers creates this kinda buzz. At this point I just wanna see moves, any White Sox moves. Do something bold, do something dumb. I just need to see something happen....anything

Tyler Flowers still has an option remaining. Re-signing him means nothing other than he won't be playing for another team next year.

Who cares, its 950K. He's worth bringing into camp at that price. Its not inconceivable that he could be a useful part time player next year.

Nothing wrong with bringing back Flowers at $950k. First, he creates some leverage for Hahn to use in trade talks for a legit catching upgrade by being able to say "we have two young catchers we believe in". Second, assuming Hahn can find a LH catcher, Flowers can push Phelgey for the backup spot and potentially provide the organization some depth at the position if he wins the job. Worst case scenario, at that salary he should be moveable in spring training and basically cost us nothing.

Doesn't surprise me. I just hope he isn't the opening day starter. Hopefully they sign AJ. Just makes too much sense and he certainly won't be blocking anyone.

I'm amazed that people wanted to the Sox to bring in JP Arencibia and then are irate that the Sox brought back Flowers. This is the ultimate in "who cares" signings. If the dude sucks, he'll get DFA'd. This signing is merely to insure that they have 2 MLB catchers on the roster.

Who are the people that wanted to bring in JP Arencibia and irate that Flowers was brought back? I merely threw out the idea that a swap could take place but thats it. Not surprised he was resigned.

I like what I've seen out of Hahn, but in my mind, the ship has sailed on Flowers. I'd give Phegley one more year. I'd have preferred it as a backup. Now he's the starter I hope and Flowers is the backup.

Because it's $1 million for a catcher who is solid defensively, knows the staff, is well liked in the clubhouse, and can hit the ball 500 feet.

Plus if he ever gets hot we can have him split time with Dunn at the DH spot since we don't have another RH hitting DH to soak up 100....wait...

Didn't Abreu sign the biggest contract in team history? Didn't Paulie say himself he wasn't going to play a lot? There is no reason to think Abreu is going to ride any pine, except for occassional breaks in 2014. None.You are just way off base.

Frankly...no.

 

I don't think they'll try to play him everyday but I think they'll play him often enough that it infuriates me. I'm so used to it from this team I just expect it.

From your tone, it seems like it's going to infuriate you if he plays as much as Billy Crystal did in Spring Training.
