If anyone is wondering about the PED test in 2011, he popped for what most would call Anavar. You won't see too many guys pinning Anavar, but it was quite popular at one point as a not-really-legal OTC, oral steroid. It has been illegal for a while, but its status is murky enough that if you go searching for hardcore testosterone boosters on the 'net you might happen upon it or something like it. In 2011, it would have been really easy to get online and because the people selling it felt they weren't breaking the law, they wouldn't ever dare label it as a steroid but instead just call it "Anavar," list its long chemical name on the back, and tell you it will make you jacked.

It isn't super potent, but is relatively low on the side effects which is why it was nice for guys that only like to break the law a little bit (and thus don't want to buy the good stuff for post-cycle recovery). He was probably just stupid.

Rick Hahn said quite a few trade ideas out there. Possibility #WhiteSox are pushing Viciedo, Beckham. http://bit.ly/1kATaZd

I have a hunch that we're working on a three team trade with the blue jays involving a swap involving Beckham and Larwrie.

Both the Jays and Sox beat writers are reporting teams to be exploring three team trades again... With Anthopoulos being quoted as thinking it gets done.

Again... Beckham and Lawrie are just speculation on my part.

I would be all for that. I wonder if De Aza could be thrown in there too, maybe to the 3rd team and get another piece back.

Gotta like Nieto's 12% walk rate at least.

#SFGiants VP Bobby Evans said "ideally we'd like to get something done" tonight in LF. I hear Franklin Gutierrez is a name they like.

Chris Cotillo just tweeted that the Giant are looking to add a left fielder very soon. Tonight maybe.

De Aza?

De Aza or Viciedo??

Updated list for #SFGiants fans to keep an eye on: Franklin Gutierrez, Drew Stubbs, Alejandro De Aza and Brett Gardner.

Let it be ADA, please. Curious as to what ADA could bring back in return. Lefty reliever maybe?

The Rule 5 draft is tomorrow. @jjcoop36 has the names to know and scouting reports in his in-depth Rule 5 preview: http://bit.ly/1h0eE1Q

Cubs losing the 4th pick overall to Phillies I did not know.

From the latest update from MLBTR:

White Sox General Manager Rick Hahn says his team still has several potential options ahead less than 24 hours after acquiring center fielder Adam Eaton from the Diamondbacks in a three-team deal, writes Dan Hayes of CSNChicago.com. One rival exec believes the White Sox would like to trade outfielder Dayan Viciedo, who is now part of a crowded house with the addition of Eaton. Another baseball source said the White Sox have looked into the possibility of trading away second baseman Gordon Beckham.

Maybe a De Aza to Giants for Catcher Hector Sanchez makes sense

Still think I'd rather bring him on in a minor league trade. go with Perez or a relief pitcher with our pick. With Hahn being determined to leave with a catcher, I wouldn't be surprised to see it be Perez if he doesn't work out a deal by the draft.

It is $50,000 or trade a player. Why wouldn't you take him?

You pay $50,000 to take him in the draft and if he doesn't stick in the majors, he is offered back for $25,000 in which case, the Nats would probably take the depth back.

I read on MLBTR earlier this AM that the brokeass Marlins are looking to move Greg Dobbs, probably because he's making over $1M and that's too much to pay a player these days. They have the #2 Rule-5 slot right ahead of us, and supposedly Hahn's maybe looking at a bench bat that can play 3B. Maybe we send them a relief prospect or something for Dobbs salary and their Rule-5 pick. That Mateo guy from the Cubs sounds interesting. Take Perez/Nieto with one and Mateo with the other, or some other pitcher if the Astros take him.

Think we are looking for a starter at third if anything. Already have a few guys there in a platoon.

And if you offer him back, it means he failed and you don't want him. Also at that point you can still workout a trade.

Still would rather take someone who is already played A Ball. Like I said earlier, I could see them taking Perez with their first pick if they don't acquire or aren't close to a deal for a catcher by draft time.

Not necessarily, it just means you & your scouts have you've had your chances to watch him up close & you are convinced he's not as far along as you hoped he might be. In which case maybe you do want him so you offer enough to keep him.

I think if the Sox are trying to move Viciedo, it goes to show you how out of favor he has fallen. Not saying he doesn't have talent/value, but the Sox must feel his swing is just never going to come around and be that big threat he has the potential to be. After last season, I don't see Viciedo turning into anything more than a Delmon Young type player.

As far as it relates to being a Major League player, the hitting skills of a Rule-5 eligible minor league catcher who has played above A ball probably aren't too much better than the hitting skills of a Rule-5 eligible minor league catcher who has *not* played above A ball. Either way it's a stretch.

Also didn't the Padres get a "no-hit" A-ball SS out of the Rule-5 who immediately became a regular just a few years ago? It can happen.

Everth Cabrera, right.

And a PED user. Not that it probably has any effect on this discussion though.
