December 10, 201312 yr QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 02:14 PM) Coming into 2013, Skaggs was a top 10-15 prospect. I think the D Backs got the worst of the deal. Trumbo has been going backwards. Right. Dbacks got screwed, Angels made out awesomely, and the Sox are kind of just in the middle somewhere.
December 10, 201312 yr And of course you have guys like Beck and Snodgress who are probably just a season away, if that
December 10, 201312 yr QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 01:12 PM) I know I'm going to get backlash for this, but what exactly is this surplus of pitching the Sox have? Guys like Rienzo can be found in every organization. I would guess that first round pick in 2014 is going to be a pitcher. I'm not worried about the Sox acquiring or developing pitchers. They seem to do that better than most. Edited December 10, 201312 yr by Dick Allen
December 10, 201312 yr Well, the Sox traded somthing they had a surplus of for something that was needed. I'm okay with it. Let's hope another deal is made to move De Aza or Viciedo.

December 10, 201312 yr QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 01:15 PM) And of course you have guys like Beck and Snodgress who are probably just a season away, if that And Jaye and Danish. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 01:15 PM) I would guess that first round pick in 2014 is going to be a pitcher. I'm not worried about the Sox acquiring or developing pitchers. They seem to do that better than most. Yup. People seem to forget this. It seems like the Sox pulled Hector and Q from nowhere.
December 10, 201312 yr QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 01:15 PM) Right. Dbacks got screwed, Angels made out awesomely, and the Sox are kind of just in the middle somewhere. Guess you could say the Sox got what they needed.
December 10, 201312 yr QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 02:15 PM) And of course you have guys like Beck and Snodgress who are probably just a season away, if that Snodgress doesn't impress me at all, actually. Struggles to put up a 2+ K/BB.
December 10, 201312 yr Well, Danish should be quite a bit more than a year away, even though he has the talent to surprise
December 10, 201312 yr Skaggs and Santiago for Trumbo? I know he makes a lot less money, but look at Trumbo's numbers vs. Adam Dunn's numbers and it's not like Trumbo is a magician with the leather. I was going to say that Skaggs must have a drinking or drug problem to be given away like that by the DBs.
December 10, 201312 yr QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 01:18 PM) Snodgress doesn't impress me at all, actually. Struggles to put up a 2+ K/BB. I don't love him either, but he is indeed close to MLB by virtue of being a AAA starter this year in all likelihood. Does have a chance of putting things together. Good frame, some talent
December 10, 201312 yr I know I'm going to get backlash for this, but what exactly is this surplus of pitching the Sox have? Guys like Rienzo can be found in every organization. So can guys like Santiago.
December 10, 201312 yr https://twitter.com/jonmorosi/status/410489388385439744 Morosi: Hector Santiago is involved in 3-way White Sox, Angels, DBacks deal, source confirms. Trade is close to being finalized.
December 10, 201312 yr QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 02:15 PM) And of course you have guys like Beck and Snodgress who are probably just a season away, if that And Bassit can be put in that convo as well. If Eaton pans out he could be a huge addition to the top of the lineup.
December 10, 201312 yr QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:21 PM) So can guys like Santiago. 3.56 ERA with 8.4 K/9IP is pretty good
December 10, 201312 yr QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 02:21 PM) So can guys like Santiago. If that were the case no one would ever give out $30M+ to the likes of Jason Vargas and Scott Feldman, nor would anyone ever trade for any pitcher less than a #3.
December 10, 201312 yr QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 07:21 PM) So can guys like Santiago. Young cost controlled starter with a career ERA of 3.30 and Ks 8.9 per 9? Doubt it. He needs to be a little more efficient but it's fixable. Beaten like a drum. Edited December 10, 201312 yr by Buehrle>Wood
December 10, 201312 yr QUOTE (scs787 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 01:23 PM) And Bassit can be put in that convo as well. If Eaton pans out he could be a huge addition to the top of the lineup. He's stolen 38 and 44 bases in the minors before, had good walk numbers, and made contact. Hopefully the top of the lineup can be Eaton-Avi-JDA
December 10, 201312 yr I'm waiting to hear what the finalized deal is...something keeps telling me that there is more.
December 10, 201312 yr QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 01:25 PM) 3.56 ERA with 8.4 K/9IP is pretty good I know you guys hate it and it's going to do nothing to change your mind, but his FIPs and xFIPs have been in the 4.4-4.7 range. He walks too many guys, doesn't throw enough ground balls, doesn't work deep into games, and was either really lucky/good/both about stranding runners.
December 10, 201312 yr 3.56 ERA with 8.4 K/9IP is pretty good He has a career xFIP of 4.66 in his career as a starter.
