June 7, 201411 yr The big problem I have with rating Beck high is that he has been declining in performance ever since his sophomore year. He is simply trending the wrong direction. I hope the working-on-a-pitch theory is the reason, but I am having a hard time buying it.

Need him to throw the fastball as a means of working him deeper and building strength. I think the thing on Beck was always the re-training of the body after taking the wrong workout routine, well maybe it's about loosening him up and making him work the right way.

I feel like you have Danish and Beck a little low, but I also can't really justify moving them above anybody except maybe Ravelo and Davidson if you're completely ignoring what he did before this year. It really is amazing how much better things look for the system right now compared to just a few months ago.

Because he is 19 years old in High-A Ball (nearly four years younger than the average player in the league) and is doing fine there. Lots of hits, but the K-to-BB is great and he induces a ton of ground balls. He also dominated Low-A ball.

And yet all we keep hearing about Danish is that he's around 88-90 as a starter while Montas is 95-98. Also, about his throwing motion/arm angles and mechanics being unconventional, so he gets compared to Sale (being risky to project as a starter, not the overall quality or level of talent/ability).

Though for me, I have serious concerns about not only durability (translating to velocity), but also just plain stuff. I just don't see that 2/3 starter ceiling people put on him as anything more than an extreme best case. I think it is much more likely he's a 4th starter if his body holds up with that delivery, or a middle reliever if it doesn't. I could be wrong of course, and hope I am.
June 10, 201411 yr Even though this isn't exciting, I do think Danish has a floor as a great reliever. The arm slot would be jarring and sink on his pitches would be such a great tool to have for holds. That said, let him prove that he can't start. We also, kinda, need a #4 starter, and one we don't have to pay for. So I wouldn't be too disappointed if he ends up as that.
