Smelter has the chance to make good money as a receiver in next year's NFL draft.

My inclination is that a deal on the bonus amount with Rodon is in place. I just do not see how Hahn would have signed the other 9 top ten picks and them come to Boras crying poor. Boras and Hahn are too sophisticated for that. It is not the bonus any longer it is when major league service time starts. Just waiting for the pieces to fall. Remember, we also are three weeks from the International signing period that will bring more talent into the system. Strap it down friends!!!

COMMENT: For all the "concerns" about Rodon this spring, you might not realize that he cut a full run off his ERA compared to last year and still fanned 117 guys in 99 innings. His walk rate was lower, too. Was he being nitpicked and prospect fatigued? Adams was one of the best high school right-handers on the market with his athleticism and arm strength and would have been an easy first rounder some years. Fry doesn’t have the same level of stuff as Rodon and Adams but was a very successful college strike-thrower. Austin was Rodon’s batterymate and hit very well this year (.344/.414/.516) though scouts continue to have mixed opinions. Okay that makes more sense. The scouting report I read had him at like 90 to low 90s and a huge curve ball. All while putting up filthy stats. I was trying to figure out how he didn't go in the first couple rounds.

 

 

It's nice to get the Big 12 player of the year in the 11th round, especially with college bats being at such a premium.

 

 

Still don't like anything I read about Jake Peter.

Very interesting to see what total he signs at. I am guessing it's going to fall lower than Aiken's 6.5. If it's less then 6 million, I would think it would help us with Rodon's negotiations.

I still won't be surprised if he signs for slot.

I must have missed info on Montes de Oca. If he is so good, why did he last so long in the draft?

You're playing chicken a little bit - you have to be willing to lose the player and get the pick next year - but it puts Rodon in a position where he has to walk away from probably $6 million, but can't reasonably ask for more because it would require them giving up their top 2015 pick.

Rodon/Bor-ASS would be foolish to turn 6 mil down. Rodon will not find a better situation to come into than the Sox. Holliday his college pitching coach even said so.
