July 18, 201411 yr QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 03:53 PM) Seven minutes until Aiken either signs or does not. Crazy. Feels good that we're not sweating out Rodon right now...even though he was never NOT going to sign.
July 18, 201411 yr Jim Callis @jimcallisMLB 1m Baseball source: Mac Marshall did NOT sign w/@Astros. Don't know if that means Aiken didn't sign, or signed for too much. @MLBDraft
July 18, 201411 yr Jim CallisVerified account @jimcallisMLBBaseball source: @Astros did not sign Aiken or Nix either. Houston gets No. 2 overall pick next year. @MLBDraft
July 18, 201411 yr So silly, Houston. You didn't sign any of the three. Automatically the worst draft of the year.
July 18, 201411 yr Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN 1m Team officials guesstimated this week that if Brady Aiken was a free agent, he'd get something in the range of $30m-$40m. What a system.
July 18, 201411 yr Likely means the White Sox are picking one further slot down in next year's draft, unless several of our players die
July 18, 201411 yr QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 04:20 PM) He hasn't thrown a pitch yet, and I'm so glad the Sox got Rodon. Same, the guy I wanted all along.
July 18, 201411 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 04:18 PM) Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN 1m Team officials guesstimated this week that if Brady Aiken was a free agent, he'd get something in the range of $30m-$40m. What a system. This is true of every draft system. Imagine what guys like LeBron, Durant, Griffin, etc. would have gone for on the open market when they were draft eligible.
July 18, 201411 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 02:18 PM) Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN 1m Team officials guesstimated this week that if Brady Aiken was a free agent, he'd get something in the range of $30m-$40m. What a system. I wonder if he would really get that much money. If I were the Sox, I'd go in the 15-20M range no problem. Of course, I even question whether teams would do that as you might set a pretty poor precedent to the other players in the organization who were unable to get around those rules. If you look at what Loux signed for when he was a FA, it wasn't huge money, something like $300K when he was a 1st round pick.
July 18, 201411 yr 2013 Draft: Astros take Mark Appel one spot ahead of Kris Bryant. Appel with a 10+ ERA, Bryant the best prospect in baseball 2014 Draft: Astros take Brady Aiken two spots ahead of Carlos Rodon. Aiken has a physical issue and does not sign, Rodon...?
July 18, 201411 yr UCLA or JUCO time for Aiken. No Aiken, Nix, or Marshall. Silly Astros. You f***ed up.

July 18, 201411 yr Bad for both sides here. Astros tried to game the system and lowball him. Aiken might be missing out millions of dollars (assuming he does not become a free agent). You never know what can happen if you go the JuCo or college route.l

July 18, 201411 yr QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 04:28 PM) Lol, people tend to be less receptive to negotiation when you try to f*** them over. That's the crazy thing about re-neging on an agreement. It makes people less likely to want to make a deal with you.
July 18, 201411 yr Jon Heyman @JonHeymanCBS 1m #astros made multiple offers to aiken to try to bridge the gap. offered close to $5M. there was said to be no counteroffers. Reply 3 Retweet Favorite
July 18, 201411 yr What could be really interesting is if there is a grievance filed on behalf of Nix, the Astros lose, and they lose their #1 pick next year.
July 18, 201411 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 04:32 PM) What could be really interesting is if there is a grievance filed on behalf of Nix, the Astros lose, and they lose their #1 pick next year. That would be amazing. It's also going to be really interesting to see how agents deal with the Astros going forward. They are going to have zero credibility at the table.
July 18, 201411 yr Ha, I didn't even think of how this could screw over the Cubs. Awesome. Ben Badler @BenBadler 14m Downstream, this hurts teams like the Cubs, Rangers, and others in the mix for a top five pick next year. Everyone gets bumped down.
July 18, 201411 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 03:34 PM) Ha, I didn't even think of how this could screw over the Cubs. Awesome. Ben Badler @BenBadler 14m Downstream, this hurts teams like the Cubs, Rangers, and others in the mix for a top five pick next year. Everyone gets bumped down. Can you think of another team probably in the mix for a top five pick that this hurts?
July 18, 201411 yr The last 30 days has not been good at all for the Astros front office. I think you could legitimately see heads roll.
